Canada's Greatest Prime Minister

Today's poll question; who is the greatest Prime Minister in the history of Canada? In my own personal opinion Liberals rarely make good PMs, so none will be included in the poll. Is it too soon to start calling Stephen Harper one of the greatest Prime Ministers in Canadian history? Because as I was watching Martha Findlay describe the last 5 marvelous years, it only strengthened my belief in our leader. I think he at least belongs in the conversation, though he has many years of leadership ahead of him to strengthen his legacy. Sir John A Macdonald is the longest serving on the list of options and one of the early favourites.

What say you?

  1. I don,t think Sir John A had to put up with the likes of all our opposition parties and Canadian press fighting the Governments every move.It is like the opposition & MSM is at war with Canada. There has got to be more behind this than just hatred for PM Harper, because they are all actually hurting Canada & not PM Harper. Is it the fact the money tap has been permanently turned off for them.?????Are all the newspapers owned by Liberals.??Anyhow my vote would have to go to PM Harper.

  2. I'd have to say Mulroney and MacDonald. MacDonald was and will always be the first PM of Canada, and despite his personal problems he laid the foundations for what this country could become. Mulroney I wouldn't have included a few years, but I've been reading and reflecting on his years in office and I've come to realize that he did a lot of transformational stuff (some of it not really conservative) in order for Canada to have the prosperity it has today.

I know you didn't include Trudeau because of his Liberal affiliations, but if I had a choice I would put him down as a reluctant third. The reason I put it down is because of the Charter, and it is sad to see the Charter's ideals become what they have today: human rights commissions and it being used to fundamentally alter society (i.e. same sex marriage, abortion 'rights'). If Trudeau were alive to see what his Charter has done to Canada, he'd want to rip it up too.

  3. old white guy says. i am still looking for a conservative pm. trudeau's charter of lawyers, by lawyers and for lawyers is doing exactly what it was designed to do. if that were not so then governments would be using the notwithstanding clause to shut down court decisions on things like immigration.

  4. SURE SURE SURE Top Can..It is not April fools day in Canada.Maybe in your house, but that is your choice.Turdeau as your 3rd choice.A man who screwed up the country with bilingualism and PUKE--PUKE biculturalism that. His NEP shut down Alberta for over ten years and the man loved the commies more than Canada. This is a man you would put 3rd.And Mulroney left his party with 2 seats in parliament, some record and some mess he left PM Harper to clean up...Are you sure it,s not April FOOLS??

  5. Ah,all Conservatives! This is just like the polls the Liberals did a few years back, when they only included Liberal PM's. It came down to a two-way contest between Our Mac and PET, but Mac won by a nosehair, probably because he was more openly anti-Semitic.

My choices would be either Joe Clark, John Turner,or Kim Campbell, because all three were in office for so short a time they couldn't do as much harm to the Country as many of the long time PM's did!

Harper's done as good a job as can be expected with a minority, here's hoping to Hell he lives up to our expectations if he ever has a majority and a stacked Senate.

  8. Voted for Diefenbaker. But Harper will win by the time he is done being in office and retires from politics.
