I Bid You Farewell

I am sad to announce that I must retire indefinitely from the Blogosphere. It is not something that I want to do; it is something that I have to do. Two weeks ago I lost my job in the service industry due to a catastrophic drop in business after the HST was unleashed and I can no longer afford the time commitment required to do what I have been doing. I have very much enjoyed the blogging experience and all your feedback, but it is time to go.

I have written 815 posts in 2010 with 220,000 page views from which I generated $120 in revenue. Considering the 1400 hours of time I have invested this year, it is not pragmatic to continue this venture in the face of a personal financial crisis. I'm about 3 weeks away from living in the trunk of my car, where I will not have an internet connection.

So I bid you all a fond farewell,
may Gordon Campbell burn in Hell...

  5. NO! You can't. You work too hard anyway. Just lay off a bit man. I love your blog all jibes aside. Quality isn't Quantity anyway.

If I heard from you once a week and it was a zinger, I wouldn't look at you diffently.

    Take some time off.

  6. Thanks Ice. I understand completely but for different reasons. I hope you are able to build on your writing skills as Adrian has done. But, at the end of the day, you have to take care of your own. I just know everything will work out, even if it means coming back to Ontario. For example, I know of four family/acquaintances who recent got back into the full-time job market in Niagara. So, there is hope!

  7. Are you kidding me?! This sucks. I hope you don't have to live in your trunk. And I hope you get a new job. Even though I only know you as a blue superhero, I think we'd get along in real life. Please try to keep in touch somehow. Can't wait to see you back on here in the not too distant future.

  8. Good luck Ice. I have very much come to respect most of your timely postings. You have an opinion and haven't just pasted others views as many bloggers do. Hope to see you back on track before too long.

Good luck and come back to us soon.

  15. Take the time and when it is right you can come back and open up shop again; it is not like blogspot is going to take this blog away.

    Take care.

  16. Very sorry to see you go, but do drop in and comment on the blogs.
If you move, remember, save all those receipts, and remember 2 wks food and lodging prior and post move are included.
You have never said what service industry you are in.
If you leave BC, remember AB has no sales tax or hst, just the gst.
Good luck and let us know where you end up, other than the trunk of your car.

  19. If you are looking for employment and a lower cost of living then get in your car and head for Kamloops. It is booming here and a great place to live. Cheers.

  24. A hiatus is not a bad thing IceMan. I am sorry that the employment situation ended. As Sandy said there is hope. When one door closes that is the opportunity for a new door to open. Stay open to the possibilities that come your way. If you do not concentrate on the career you were in but eye the possibilities and the knowledge you know you have... you can land something soon. Perseverence and consistent visits to employment areas is the key..or it was when I was looking.
Come back when you are ready, we will all be here :-)

  25. Best of Luck Ice.

As another has already commented, maybe time to give Calgary a spin.

  27. Maybe we can help find you a job. What do you do? Any readers hiring? In any case, we don't always agree, but I wish you well. If I can help let me know.

  30. This is the worst news! I have really enjoyed your blog a lot as one of the best. Your choice of sujects are interesting and I like your analyses of the issues. It makes me even angrier that you are a victim of BC HST! Let the recall begin for the rest of us who do not have to job hunt! I hope that you will soon be back in the flush and that you can afford the time and expense to blog again! You will be missed.

  31. Enjoyed your posts, Ice. I'm sure you'll get through this!

    All the best, eh!

  32. Hang in there man. Here's hoping the employment situation improves for you.

  33. Thanks Iceman for being one of my favourite bloggers. Hope we here about how you are doing. Keep in touch!

  34. Ice Man good luck in your job hunt. I will miss your quirky blog and your love for the cinema though I disagree with you on G.I.JOE.
I do find it a bit ironic that the day you announce your job loss is the day the movie "The Expendables" opened.
    GOOD LUCK!

  35. HARPER AND CAMPBELL WANTED THE HST. I HOPE THEY BOTH GET DEFEATED FOR WHAT THEY DID TO YOU.

  36. This is very unfortunate news. I hope better times and opportunities come to you very soon. God bless.

(P.S. to Anonymous above: It was a provincial decision. Also, the federal Liberals supported the HST)

  37. Please, one more poll:

How long will it take Iceman to find a new job?

    or

How much longer will BC have to endure Gordon Campbell?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm sorry to hear that. Good luck!! I hope you're able to return to blogging soon.

  39. Move to Saskatchewan, they got jobs out there. I know two people that just relocated from Toronto and landed jobs in days. Good luck, and I know you will be back. (real conservative)

  40. Ciao Iceman - hope to see you back soon.

Pitty when reality comes crushing down on those of us who enjoy living in our virtual communities.

    Best of luck!!

  41. Wishing you all the best in finding the job that makes your heart sing!

With your enthusiasm for politics, and fighting the fight, I have a notion that you will be drawn back to blog.

I surely will be watching for it....and for lighter times for you in general.
