Ignatieff Telling Lies?

For the first 10 days of the campaign, Ignatieff was travelling around the country saying "if you stop telling lies about me, I'll stop telling the truth about you", a line borrowed from American politics. After the Tories released their platform (which included no cuts to health care) Iggy started speculating that the Conservatives would make massive cuts to health care. Basically you have Iggy running around making accusations without any promise, indication, or historical evidence to support his conclusion. It is 100% speculative. What happened to telling lies versus telling the truth?

At least with coalition speculation, there is a written signed agreement which has yet to expire, and an on-air statement by Ignatieff that he's willing to lead a coalition government. There is at least a historical basis to talk about future coalitions. These health care accusations by Ignatieff are completely out of left field and smells like desperation.

  2. Apparently Justin Trudeau has come out and admitted there will be a coalition if there's another Tory minority. See Joanne's blog.

  4. Roger Smith just said on CTV (His report on the Harper campaign) that Harper has a hidden agenda and its to cut health care.
Layton is at 14% in todays new poll and he said..."Of course we want a majority".(Coalition?)
Duceppe wants to have the french language debate changed because Thur. is the firt playoff game of the Montreal Canadians.(he should of thought of that when he voted to bring down the govt)

  6. Iggy is climbing in the poles because he is lying and his lies are being supported by the MSM. Fife, Smith, Oliver, Taber...take you're pick.

  7. I read the liberal platform document. While I didn't find any outright lies, there were many statements that didn't present the entire truth.

As an example, the document said that Harper ran up the largest deficit in Canadian history.

Which is true from a purely monetary point of view. But if you account for nominal GDP growth (the honest way to do it) then these deficits are minute compared to those ran up by the Trudeau administration. No does Ignatieff mention that the Liberals themselves criticized the Harper government for not being stimulative enough during the recession.
