Going Vogue...

I wanted to write a blurb about the new Sarah Palin book on the release day, and I was trying to think of a catchy title for my blog post. I thought up "Going Vogue", which wasn't exactly pushing the limits of creativity but nonetheless I thought it was clever. By the time I finally got home I started to think, surely somebody else has already thought of that angle. So I punched it into Google, and this is the moniker that many on the left are branding on the new book. Seeing so many opinionists that I seriously disagree with on major policy coming out swinging with aggressive fervor against Going Rogue, kind of has me taking a step back. I have always maintained that I like Sarah Palin as a person and I think that she has a bright future in our society, but anyone who thinks that she can win on a national ticket is delusional.

Look, there are a lot of Conservative members of Parliament that I really like and I think are fantastic at what they do, but I am quite picky about who sits in the Prime Minister's Office. We are lucky to have Stephen Harper sitting in that chair right now, and the list of people I would rather have instead is microscopic. I am not going to name any names, but I can like MPs without supporting them to run the country. If Palin wants to have a talk show, do the lecture circuit, and be a pseudo celebrity, fantastic! I feel strangely comfortable with that, given how some left wingers go bananas at the very thought of Palin, like cerebral cat nip. But she can't be President or even Vice President. One of my chief complaints against the election of Obama was political inexperience. Palin resigning public office so soon in her tenure to write a book prevents her from accumulating the experience necessary to do the job that she seems to want to do.

It is okay to like Sarah Palin, and I think she should sue the Huffington Post, Bill Maher, David Letterman, Keith Oberman, et all, in one giant defamation lawsuit. But she will never be President. Tina Fey poisoned Sarah in center forever. Is it fair, maybe not, but quitting elected office to write a book does not make her more qualified to do something that she is not qualified to do.

You may also read what I wrote when she resigned as Governor.

  1. I have to fully disagree. I think Sarah Palin is doing an amazing job at shrugging off left wing lies and criticisms and coming back swinging. She really is a Reaganite, with Reaganite values and the ability to unite the US.

  2. I am not saying that you can't like her or respect her; I'm saying that she should never be President. That is not to say that she should shut her mouth, that is saying that I would take Rudy Giuliani over Sarah Palin for the Oval Office 7 days a week and twice on Sunday...

  3. Have to agree with JH on this one. Seems Iceman you would have disagreed about Maggie Thatcher.

  4. Tell me how Sarah Palin is Marget Thatcher. I am happy to have that debate.

  5. I mean the ability to unite the US as president. I think she'd storm through the USA the way Ronald Reagan did. Ronald Reagan had the advantage of being well known. Sarah Palin is now well known, but smeared.

Its a moot point regardless, because she isn't seeking the Presidency.

  6. I agree, that She should have served out her Governorship,to gain more executive experience, if she is interested in National politics. In 3 years, Americans will have tired of Obama's race with Jimmy Carter to decide the weakest President in living memory. They will be looking for someone with proven management experience, particularly in foreign affairs. I don't doubt that Palin is as knowlegeable as Obama in foreign affairs, but that is not good enough for a world leader. In terms of Canadian geographic and political knowledge, I would bet the bank that Palin is superior to Obama. I would be very surprised if he could name more than 1 western province.
While she may not be qualified to be President, or VP, I would like to see her serve in some role in the future.

  7. I agree with the Iceman. The next president of the USA needs to be a seasoned professional like Giuliani or Romney and with a track record as long as your arm. The USA does not need another Johnny-Come-Lately as President. The Obama Experiment failed. I shudder to think about the predicament of the USA should Palin follow Obama. I respect her values but the USA will need seasoned leadership to get it out of the Obama mess.
