Jim Travers R.I.P

I am sad to learn that Toronto Star columnist Jim Travers has passed away. Even as a partisan Tory I read a lot of his work over the years. I may not always have agreed with him, but he was a skilled journalist whom I respected. Jim will be missed, even by his detractors.

One also can't forget the prophetic irony of Liberal leader Mike Ignatieff mocking Jim Travers "declining years". That's bad karma Mike...

  1. I did not know Travers personally so I don't know what kind of person he was. However, I did read his columns faithly and recognized he was a far left Liberal sympathizer along with his buddy Don Newman. I did not like his columns most of the time because I thought they were negative and one sided. I will not miss reading his columns.

  2. I also didn't know Travers personally either, but thought he was a great example of everything that is wrong with the media the past 40 years. Completely one sided and slanted to the extreme left. People like Travers have done more to polarize debate in this country than even the party he shilled for. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for free speech, but in a country like Canada when you're only getting one sided propaganda and a demonizing of opposing views it shouldn't be something that is praised. I empathize with his family and his political comrades over his loss, but I don't want to be a hypocrite either. Travers was a great example of what a "Journalist" should not do, a blind partisan from one side of the political sphere while claiming to be an impartial observer. Having said all that... God rest his soul, and RIP.
