Buzz Hargrove Outstanding Talent?

Buzz Hargrove has written a book, and he has been nominated for an award by the Globe and Mail and friends intended "to recognize the outstanding talent in Canadian business writing". It is a strong oxymoron indeed to see Buzz Hargrove's name and the words "outstanding talent" in the same sentence, but as Trailer Park Supervisor Jim Lahey once said "when you plant shit seeds, you get shit weeds". Buzz likes trade barriers. He likes consumers paying higher prices for a smaller selection of goods and services. He would like to lower the quality of life for the large majority of Canadians in order to extort a better deal for the tiny fringe group that he represented before his alliance with Paul Martin put him in hot water with labour activists.

Buzz wants everyone to pay a price for the benefit of a small special interest group who do not want competition, because competition lowers prices and makes it more difficult to extort an unhealthy collective bargaining agreement. Take steel for example, a manufactured input material used in several critical industries. If you stop foreign steel from being available to Canadian industry, then that makes steel more expensive for every business that makes something out of steel. Sure a few steel unions in Hamilton may benefit from being able to charge higher prices, but all the hundreds, nay thousands, of Canadian businesses who have to buy steel would see their costs go up. As price goes up, sales go down, and then workers in other industries start losing their jobs.

I'd be curious to know which books could have been nominated but were not.

  1. Buzz always looks like a cat who ate a dead, sour mouse on a foggy morning. Never smiles, never makes eye contact.

  2. For most of his life as a union leader, Buzz lived in the cozy embrace of his auto industry pals who were happy to humour him with ever-increasing wage hikes for his members because they figured they could keep passing the resulting labour cost increases to the consumer. Buzz and his pals were so full of themselves and their infallibility that they actually thought they could hose the customers indefinitely. Then the whole pile came tumbling down.

  4. It's just another example of what normal is to the leftist idiots that the Toronto media are.

Is there anyone left in Toronto who isn't a hard core leftist kook? It sure doesn't seem so.

I know it's not going to happen overnight, but theirs no doubt that Toronto is slowly becoming the next Montreal. What a thing to become. I wonder if Canada could withstand another ball and chain wrapped around it’s neck?

Looks like we’ll be find out some day.
