Jive Turkey

Dick Morris said it best, "if the Palestinians put down their weapons, there would be no more war. If the Jews put down their weapons, there would be no more Israel". Personally I find the Turkish government's involvement and reaction to this blockade run disturbing. Is the former Ottoman Empire trying to re-establish their influence and control in their former colonies? The reaction to the event was instantaneous, almost too fast to believe. Hundreds if not thousands of people were protesting in the streets of Turkey before anyone really knew what happened. Winston Churchill, one of the men tasked with chopping up the Ottoman Empire after its fall once said "a lie gets half way around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on."

The other thing that I can’t figure out is all the white people volunteering to be human shields for ships running a legitimate blockade. Is this a byproduct of Jimmy Carter's book? Why are all these people who aren't from Palestine, who have nothing to do with Palestine getting on these boats and running blockades? I'm watching interviews with white "activists" who jumped on a foreign boat and are declaring their right to defend their "homes" against invaders. A misguided loon who jumps on a foreign boat to sacrifice his life for another persons beef should not get to do the North American media circuit. I would rather these people be arrested than put on television.

I am a white agnostic who does not believe in Armageddon. I strongly support the state of Israel because we share a common enemy, and I watched Schindler’s List at a young and impressionable age.

  1. Here is a letter written to the NP by 2 Israelis.

Thanks Canada, for standing with Israel

Re: Harper Seen As Champion Of Israel, Jonathan Kay, May 31.

It would be poor form for those of us living in Israel not to take a moment of our time to express gratitude for the noble and correct positions taken by our many friends in Canada.

We are under siege here in Israel, short and simple. There are terrorist groups and countries whose official mandate is to "wipe Israel off the mapm" and Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran are more motivated than even the Nazis were to annihilate every Jew.

We Israelis are lonely but not alone in this fight, one that ultimately will decide the fate of the free world. Israel with its six million Jews, superior military, moral integrity and commitment to democratic values will always fight for what is right, fair and just. Those who have similar values know this to be true.

Thank you Canada, for standing with Israel on the right side of truth and morality in the face of constant attack by the enemies of peace. And thanks to the National Post for having the guts to provide an honest perspective. Years from now, when our descendents ask: "Where were you when the 'terrorist axis' tried to take over the world and destroy our way of life?" you can answer: "We told the truth and stood with our friends in the state of Israel."

    Robert Gasner, Karnei Shomron, Israel.

Boy, my heart thump with pride, thanks Gasner and Shomron and, you are welcome.

  2. It should never be forgotten that Turkey renegged on a deal with the US to allow troops to enter Iraq through Turkey. This was a major reason why the War dragged on so long. These people are treacherous and should be rcognized as such.
