According to Warren Kinsella's merger affidavit, the terms of the NDP-Liberal merger demands the NDP renounce socialism and accept Ignatieff as their leader. So now the NDP is going to renounce socialism? Good luck with that guys. There are a number of NDP policy positions that are unpalatable to the mainstream that will have to be dropped in order to campaign on common coalition policy that I sincerely doubt the NDP will ever drop. Their core constituency are labour unions and people who want a bigger handout from government. Most Canadians have jobs and want lower taxes that are only possible with less socialism. There is a fine line between a social safety net and a spider web, and the NDP are on the other side of it.
Will the NDP ever renounce socialism? I sincerely doubt it. I'm sure some of their union members who make good money don't like subsidizing welfare for lazy people, but with so many in their base being the lazy people who want handouts, they risk splitting in two if they drop the socialism. Meanwhile I haven't heard anything from Elizabeth May in the past few days on this merger subject, but she has to be chomping at the bit to absorb the disaffected socialists who would abandon the NDP if they merged with Liberals.
If you read the details, how Unions have 25% of the voting rights, the Liberals would need to neuter the back room control of the NDP.
ReplyDeleteWhy would the Unions donate if they could not control the new entity?
The finances must be really bad for both parties and the ending of the subsidy is scaring them silly.
We need to see the balance sheets, and 2nd-3rd quarter funding results for the party.
You won't be hearing much from Lizzie May, the greens are working at de-throning her. Another party with internal infighting that is keeping them preoccupied.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! If liberals can renounce liberty, why not? They will both renounce everything and become progressives. A Socialist by another name is still just a socialist.
ReplyDeleteThey really think people are stupid. More likely they think people who don't already vote for them are stupid. This is possibly their greatest error.
