Wednesday radio host Christy Clark announced her intention to run for the leadership of the BC Liberal Party (and thus potentially becoming Premier without winning a general election). She does not hold a seat in the legislature, supports the HST, and her brother was investigated by the RCMP in the controversial BC rail investigation. Her brother Bruce was also one of the main fundraisers in BC for Paul Martin's leadership campaign. Gordon Campbell was always said to be a friend to the federal Tories, Christy Clark is most certainly not.
She is not like one of the "BC Liberals" who are also federal Conservatives. There is nothing wrong with that from her perspective, if she is an honest Liberal then she may as well run for the provincial Liberals. The biggest problem for her candidacy is that the provincial Liberals rely on a large majority of federal Tory voters to defeat the pinko communist kooks at the NDP. Christy Clark is not going to do well among federal Conservatives, which is great news for the fledgling BC Conservative Party (which has yet to run a full slate of candidates) and the NDP.
And her radio show is extremely annoying. I listen to that network quite often because they carry Adler Online, but as soon as I hear Christy's voice, I am very quick to change the station. CKNW used to air Adler in the afternoon, until they bumped him back to nights and gave Christy an afternoon show.
As a Conservative, I like Christy Clark. I think she's smart, tough, and charismatic and would make a decent premier. However, I agree with you -- her close ties to the federal Liberals puts me off. It's the one reason that makes me reluctant to actually support her.
ReplyDeleteShe’s calling herself an “outsider” but between her husband and brother, she never left. She’s way to Liberal for me. c
ReplyDeleteShe was married to the strategist for the Federal Liberals,Mark Marissen, and her loyalties lie with the Liberals/Liberals,period. She will NOT get the conservative vote, unless conservatives have lost their bloody minds.
ReplyDeleteClark is the worst of the candidates so far to declare. She may be,"tough and decisive", but she's the ultimate political animal, and we taxpayers are just "the little people" ,the "beer and popcorn crowd",in her mind. If the Party has any sense,it'll be a two way race between Falcon and Abbott.
Alex Tsakumis blog has some good information about Clarke. I suggest anyone who's thinking of supporting Clarke take a trip over there first.

Clark can win. If Falcon can't generate the support he needs, the conservatives in the Liberal Party of BC would be well advised to put their ideology in their pockets, hold their nose and go with Clark. If they don't -- very scary boys and girls.
ReplyDeleteClark would be the absolute worse choice possible. She's a federal "Liberal" of the Trudeaupian variety and that alone should set off the alarm bells. Clark is just lucky the criminal activities surrounding the give away of BC Rail was covered up by the courts. Clark is an opportunistic federal "Liberal" and that's the last thing BC needs. Between Clark and Bill Good there is absolutely no reason to listen to CKNW during the day hours, unless you're a "Liberal".
ReplyDeleteShe never accomplished anything or was particularly accomplished while she was a minister. She'd be a poor choice.
ReplyDeleteShe is a joke, this lady just wants her own "Kingdom" be it the city of Vancouver,in which she failed, or the province of BC. Actually I hope she does wins the leadership of the Liberals, as everyone will see what a stammering, stuttering idiot she is, and she will bring the Liberal party to its knees,
ReplyDeleteIf she loses, I hope CKNW does not take her back!
The main federal conservative candidate for the BC Liberals, Kevin Falcon, isn't doing as well as predicted from what I hear. That leaves the likely outcome between George Abbott and Christy Clark. Supporting the BC Conservatives isn't an option for anyone really as even when they get 7% of the vote, the NDP gets a majority and they really will run the economy into the ground. I remember paying 54% income taxes under them and I see already their leadership candidates are talking about "ensuring that everyone is paying their fair share of taxes" which means they are coming for your wallet.
ReplyDeletewell she won...... yeah -.-
