I'm certain there are pundits over at a certain network who will attempt to jump all over the cabinet reshuffle as a clear sign of a vicious attempt to cover up any number of conspiracies; despite the fact that this is a very standard and healthy component of our democracy. Every so often in virtually every government, Provincial and Federal, you need to shuffle the deck. Be it to avoid complacence or inject new ideas into new Ministries, it happens all the time. I don't want to speculate on which Ministers are going to lose their jobs and who belongs where, because I trust the Prime Minister to assign the best talent to the best position.
The only Minister out of cabinet whom I would like to see in cabinet is my own MP John Weston, one of the hardest working MPs in caucus, at least from what I've seen in my own riding. I would support Maxime Bernier returning to cabinet. I trust the people in his own riding to vet his character, and they re-elected him by a huge margin despite Girlfriend-gate. The man is very popular in Quebec, and the Conservatives would like more votes in Quebec. It seems like a simple calculation.
Of the MPs in cabinet who should be considered for promotion, I believe the most under-appreciated asset in the Conservative Party is James Moore. Any time I have had the opportunity to listen to him speak; be it in Question Period or interviews, I have been uniquely impressed with the speed and clarity of his intellect. I believe that his talent would be a tremendous benefit to the country if dedicated to a more critical portfolio, and yet with us preparing to host the Olympics, I am strangely comfortable having the whiz kid at the Ministry of Heritage. I want more Moore in the future, but for the short term it is a good fit to have him at his current post.
To tie my last 2 posts together, James Moore would crush Ross Rebalagalti in a debate about anything. I'd take James to defeat Ross in a debate about snowboarding!
ReplyDeleteDid'ya know Iceman that John is a Taekwondo player and long distance runner. That not only is he hard working but the little sucker's tough as nails too. Gotta like him. Couldn't lie or steal if he tried and I know he'd place himself in harms way to help others. A good man.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you about James Moore. I've talked with him many times over the years. He is one of our best, and I look forward to great things from him in the future. As you say, a "great fit" where he is now. After the Olympics, the sky is the limit. Future leader?
