Hockey Fans With Giant Lasers

To the Vancouver Canucks fan who brought a laser to a recent game to shoot into Kiprusoff's eyes, I am calling for a lifetime ban from live sporting events. You just don't do that. Make a sign, scream really loud, maybe even start a Mikka sucks chant in your section, but you don't shoot laser beams at professional athletes. If he has tickets to any Olympic events, take them away. I don't want him shooting lasers at Team Norway. We need to show world class decorum while we are hosting world class athletes.

I would go so far as to suggest that home fans shooting laser beams into opponents eyes should result in the loss of a draft pick for the home team, but that would only encourage fans from other teams to go undercover. Basically my opinion is, shoot a laser in an opponent's eyes, and you are banned for life. That should deter the clowns who do this sort of thing.

  1. The sad thing about this it was not picked up by a major newspaper in BC.

  2. It was a clear and blatant green laser caught by HNIC cameras from behind Kiprusoff´s net. You´re right, I´ve seen zip in the papers.

  3. I agree.

Fans cheating on their team's behalf is actually fairly endemic in European hockey. I hate watching Team Canada -- at any level -- play the Czechs anywhere near the Czech Republic.

Czech fans are notorious for showing up to games with whistles, then blowing them as teams cross the blue line in hopes of disrupting the play to their team's benefit.

I've heard it on some NHL games as well, but nowhere near as often.
