To the 30% of Canadians who might be agitated at the prorogation of Parliament, you can find solace in the fact that Kady O'Malley is on the case, fighting with all her partisan zeal to nudge that number higher and higher. Harris-Decima did a survey on how Canadians feel about proroguing this Parliament until after the Olympics, and half don't care at all. When you break that number down, with the Tories at roughly 37% nationally and 1/4 of Tories allegedly opposed to prorogation, then 20% of the 60% who voted for a non Tory party don't care that we paused Parliament for the Olympics. Kady failed to punch that number into her calculator.
That's right, 1/3 of opposition voters don't care. But instead of just accepting the reality that it is not as big a deal as the opposition would like it to be, Kady has to dig deeper, and she does. As a mathematician, I can't really make any sense of how the numbers she presents actually proves her thesis that Canadians are ready to storm the Bastille. I wonder how many hours she had to spend manipulating the data to finally arrive at her shady conclusion? According to Kady, Canadians are going to evolve from not caring at all to furious because the Libloggers are sending around e-petitions. That's right, the far left is going to rouse apathy into anger, much like how Tweed could turn buttermilk into gold on Teddy Ruxpin.
Honestly, it is probably best to read Marx-A-Million's interpretation of O'Malley's PROROGUE WATCH! He was the one who tipped me to this story. I will try to encourage him to read Kady's work more often. Oh, and it gets even funnier, she claims that the data she analyzed is void because the question was asked how WOULD you feel about prorogation, not how DO you feel. What Kady tells us is that when people tell you they will not care if something happens, what they are really trying to tell you is that they will be furious when it does happen.
There once was a goof named Kady,
Whose mathematics were very shady!
Thank you, I'll be here all week!
Shady Kady is just trying to take over the alpha cow position at the CBC when Heather Mallick retires.
ReplyDeleteMarx a million serves a useful purpose.Gotta keep the lines of communication open yknow.Doesnt mean we have to take his advice or rantings to heart or vote!:D

Kady, is exposing her true journalistic agenda which has moved very quickly to 'Queen witch hunter' and 'tacky gossip columnist'.
ReplyDeleteInitially, I enjoyed her spunky and cheeky style but I recognised a gossipy nature and I was hoping she would grow up and eventually evolve into a meaty and thorough researcher. Provide some fact pieces, both sides, clear and concise and non-partisan.
She HAD that potential but she has turned the corner and has instead, chosen this relentless attack garbage.
I never bother with her now, ever. She is just like all of the others now. What a shame.
Poor virtue epistimology. O'Malley's trying waaaaay too hard to warp the poll results to meet her ends.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone needs further evidence of that, they need look no futher than her "well, they didn't care when they thought Harper might prorogue Parliament; Maybe they'll care more when he actually does" argument.
Do Canadians have to listen to more shrieking and fear mongering about H1N1, door knobs and carnival sized cheques, body bags, and abusive treatment of Taliban with a shoe for the whole month of February during the Olympics. And Canadians also wait for this - the Liberal party, the Party of Pierre Trudeau, led by their crusader Carolyn Bennet, want to get back into the bedrooms of Canadians, and make the state of sex toys a priority for the Canadian government. Although I am surprised that the Liberals haven't called for an early recall of parliament or an emergency debate on the sex toy crisis, is this what upsets the Liberals and some political pundits, about the prorogation and a delay of getting this subject to the head of the order paper. Is this really what the outrage is all about in the political columns? I think Canadians saw this coming and would rather enjoy the Olympic games then a question period and exhausting debate for days on end, on the state of sex toys in Canada, which would receive the usual expansive coverage by the media.
