The Battle of the Bulge

Generally when an opponent is being defeated they embark on an ambitious offensive to regain the advantage, such as the German Army attempted with the Ardennes Offensive to capture Belgium and split the Allied advance. That is what we are seeing with the environmental socialists right now. These clowns protesting on the British Parliament are an excellent example, and also these clowns set to blitz "strategic ridings" in Quebec and Ontario. Patton recognized the tactical importance of Bastogne, and concentrated his effort on the critical hub. Eventually the German offensive failed. The outdated incorrect Forecast models of these environmentalists are our "Bastogne". Focus on what they said was going to happen, look at what is happening, and then focus on how what they are currently saying is wrong. Don't be distracted by the "shock and awe". Focus squarely on "Bastogne".

"An army is a team. It lives, eats, sleeps, fights as a team. This individuality stuff is a bunch of bullshit."

- General George Patton Jr

  1. I'm betting you saw that movie's namsake. I can't remember (forget the names) where the German campaign commander (Field Marshal whatever) wanted the general to bypass Bastonge and keep his tanks moving west. But the general said he needed to reduce Bastonge to shatter the Allied morale, particularly the Americans. The general's rationale for doing os was a chocolate cake wrapped in a three day old newspaper. He figured that if the American's material and logistical might was such that they could make fresh cake and have it sent to the front line in a matter of days, then the fight was certainly lost unless they did something drastic to turn the tide.

The Liberals have nothing going for them. They are down in support in every region in the country. They are on their third loser as leader. They are bereft of vision, policy, and heart. They may have inproved their fundraising for now, but with their current membership, I'm betting that they are all tapped out; that will be reflected when the new numbers for fundraising come out.

You are right; we are witnessing our own "Bastonge" right now. Like the Ardennes, the Liberals "rolled the dice" with ad spots, but ended up throwing away precious resources on those ads that were proven to be completley ineffective.

The Liberals are being squeezed between the Western Allies (Tories) and the Eastern Soviets (NDP and Green) but its not us they have to fear as much as the horde screaming from the east. As I mentioned about the ad sports (and very much like the Germans did with the cream of their remaining forces), they are throwing all their remaining resources away on fighting the portion of the enemy that in the end, will do them the least harm.

Ultimatley, the Liberals know that the war is lost, and this is the time where they are going to do something shockingly desperate to try to turn the tide (e.g. Paul Martin's Notwithstanding Clause gambit in 2006).
