Ignatieff you Magnificent Bastard!

I played 54 holes of par 3 golf today, and at one point in the day the conversation turned to General Patton. I was being defeated by my opponent, a slow but steadily growing shot deficit. At one point I joked that I felt like Rommel rumbling out of Carthage on his heels. We started talking about Patton. We were backed up behind the group in front of us at a tee box, and one of the gentlemen overheard our conversation. He turned to me and said "Did you see the show last week?" and I said "Patton 360 baby!" to which he responded "too bad we don't have one of those today"

Any "right minded" individual who has not seen the movie Patton must watch it before having an opinion on future military strategy. Generals like Patton win battles. Of all our commanding officers in the Canadian Armed Forces, who is the most like a modern day Patton? We need one of those. Also to Tory strategists, pundits, MPs alike I ask that you remember how Patton overwhelmed Rommel despite the Krauts having hardened troops and better hardware. Patton read Rommel's published literature. By doing so he figured out how to lure him into the "hammer and anvil."

The parallels with Ignatieff are clear. An academic who reaches to say superfluous things to get noticed in the academic community is going to write a whole bunch of material that is either asinine, absurd, foolhardy, or flatly incorrect. Ignatieff has already penned the seeds of his political demise. I don’t want people to spend any money on his books. Find what is available online; maybe organize public readings of his material. Or one conservative buy a book and pass it on to another conservative. Iggy makes money when people buy his books. Let’s not facilitate this. Stephen Harper is a "Parliamentary Patton", but we need that sort as much or more in the theatre of war than we do in the legislature.

Again back to Patton, at the decisive moment when Patton was crushing Rommel's main force, Patton screams:

"Rommel you magnificent bastard!, I READ YOUR BOOK!!!"

Watch the movie.
