I have always wondered what exactly was going through the minds of the astronauts of Apollo 14 as they watched the clock count down to the moment when the engines would launch them into outer space. I am sure that they put on a brave face while preparing to perform their duty, but somewhere in the backs of their minds there had to be grave concern. A rush of excitement to be sure, but also a voice questioning whether or not it was a mistake to be strapped into those seats.
Which brings me back to Marc Garneau. Allow me to paraphrase Tom Hanks in Apollo 13; Ottawa, Iggy's got a problem! He appears to be venting a gas into space. Oh, oh, it has to be the oxygen. Yup, it's the oxygen!
Marc, consider yourself warned that this is a potentially disastrous decision. You would be well advised to pass on this assignment, continue to accrue experience in Parliament, and grab a seat on the next mission...
I thought this one would get more hits than it has. An astronaut is now Iggy's Quebec Czar. Can't an Apollo 13 zinger gain some traction? This only scored 1/10 the hits as my "Liberal defections" piece.
