G20 Protest, "Scorched Toronto"
I have never understood that part of the psyche of protest organizers where they feel they can grow support for their cause by deliberately disrupting people's lives. I support peoples right to assemble in protest, but I get pissed off when they block traffic. No cause has ever recruited my support by sending activists into the streets to disrupt every day life. The protest organizers for the upcoming G20 Summit are preparing a "walk out" where activists spread out and cause havoc. It is similar to the Scorched Earth strategy used to repel invasions of Russia, but it is not something that will endear you to the local people whose lives you are disrupting.

These disruptive protest scum do it because they know they can get away with it. The horrendous costs of the G8/20 gabfests could have been avoided by deploying a couple hundred well armed police or military people with orders to shoot to kill.

ReplyDeleteI even boycott BECEL margarine because they sponsor a bike ride for a charity that effectively keeps me from driving downtown Toronto to spend my money. If I were a mayoral winning candidate there, or a businessman there, I would force those people to go somewhere else to ride their bikes so that I could prosper without political interference. Send them to Mossport or something.
If the incumbent politicians want to be reelected my bottom line is to prosecute all protestors to the FULLEST extent of the law. I include here people like Sid Ryan if it can be shown that he incited any kind of violence.

Why doesn't he rent a fallow farmers field to do his war dance.

ReplyDeleteA nice fantasy that a few hundred Cops or Military folks could stop what the PM is HOPING that he can stop, and that is, a well organized attack by people that look forward to dying. Getting the people into a single defensible structure in a well laid out and known environment sounds like a good plan to me. When I look at the cost figures that have been racked up in PAST G8 & G20 events, I think we're doing pretty well.

If they're going to continue to behave in uncivil ways while they trample on the rights of others (and their property) then they are temporarily forfeiting some of their own rights in the process.

We accept breaking laws and accept facing punishment to put pressure on our government bought off by the wealthy as always.
this security effort is designed to encourage violence to further sway public opinion of protesters so the rich can continue playing god unchallenged.

I agree with Anonymous. The people "inciting violence as petty criminals" are in fact representing a very large percentage of the population: those of us who are pissed off but either too lazy, scared, or indisposed to do the same thing. I wish I could respond in this manner, but part of me always says "not yet, not yet, in due time." So for those of you out there claiming "these people don't represent anyone but themselves", you're wrong. They represent an every growing number of people angry enough to endorse or incite violence themselves. These people represent me, and I am nobody. I have less voice than you...I have no blogspot an I don't think anyone would read it even if I did. So burn some cop cars: at least they're not shooting kids with rubber bullets and tear gas (which, believe it or not, is something that the riot police do by accident every now and then...more than can be said of protesters and "terrorists").

I wonder how OCAP would feel if a bunch of citizens showed up at their offices with pitchforks, hoes and torches and trashed their offices?

John Clarke on Thursday said the police had declared war on the public should expect war in return and it sure looks like he and his buddies created one.
