The Liberal Party is becoming sanctimonious about the government granting Access to Information requests, and I am curious to know if they will apply this new ethical standard to their friends at the CBC. Will they stand up in Question Period and demand that the CBC reveal their exact cost expenditures? Surely this is some maniacal violation of the public good and the public broadcaster withholding that information represents an erosion of our democracy. Fortunately, a judge has already ruled that the CBC must answer the backlog and disclose what the people are asking to know. Will the CBC grant those requests? We’ll see. Maybe somebody out there can file a request for Milewski’s expense accounts.
Why does Canada have an Access to Information act? It was introduced at the end of the reign of Pierre Trudeau. As Gabby in QC insightfully commented on my last post, it would be interesting to see the data for the total number of AIA requests under Stephen Harper, the Liberal government before him, and who was making the requests. Have certain news outlets been requesting more information since Harper was elected? I'd be curious to know, except that the CBC doesn't like sharing information passed through this medium.

ReplyDeleteIf it was any crown corporation other than the CBC, they certainly would.
And then be demanding the resignation of the Minister responsible.
