Enjoy it Canada, Parliament is back in 3 days

As I prepare to depart for my friend's house to watch the big game, I'm wondering if there is any point to posting a blog post here this morning. Most of Canada is going to be watching the hockey game, not browsing political blogs. With the slew of medals Canadian athletes have accumulated in the last few days, we don't need a win in hockey to salvage a disappointing Games. No, we have already set the record most medals be Canada and most gold by a host country. We are tied for most gold ever at a Winter Olympics, and it is the icing on that cake which today is at stake. It would taste very sweet to say the least!

According to the ancient Greeks who invented the Olympics, the winner of the Games is the team that finishes in first place more than any other. They don’t play the star spangled banner when Americans win bronze. For 70% of the USA’s medals, they were listening to someone else’s anthem on the podium. More than half of our medals came complete with a playing of Oh Canada, and no song was played more while the athletes of the world were standing on OUR podium!

The only person in Canada unlikely to be watching the game is Kady O'Malley, who seems to harbour contempt for athletic competition. The only news she will report about the Olympic Games is bad news. When Canada was busy winning 3 gold medals yesterday, Kady had to do a rare emergency weekend post about a tantrum at an airport. Evidently being frustrated with Air Canada's poor service is evidence that you have contempt for the institution of Parliament. It warrants a running series of blog posts titled "ContemptWatch2010". I don't know who to tell to grow up first, Helena or Kady...

  1. I saw on CTV, they were talking to Fred Euwanich, "Hank" from Corner Gas, he's been hosting some of the medal ceremonies at Whistler. He said that people are enjoying the games so much that they are even happen and enjoying themselves when they are waiting in line.

So such on that Olympic bashers.

  4. Now that Parliament is going to be back in session,I can feel safe in the arms of Mother Government again. I don't know how we survived! This was the greatest challenge to democracy since 1939,no,no, WORSE!

I, like the LPC and the NDP thought the world would end, and instead of going out to anti-prorogue rallies, stayed home and drank beer, without popcorn. I hate popcorn.

Btw, the success of the anti-PR rally was evident here when 100 people showed up at the protest, the largest crowd to ever attend an anti-PR rally in Kelowna!

Three days later,15,000 attended the Olympic torch ceremony as the torch passed through town, leaving many of us with the impression more people cared about the upcoming Olympics than about the Pr'ing of Parliament. Liberals say otherwise.

Both Guergis and O'Malley should be doused with five gallons of ice water, spoiled, privileged bitches!

  5. Kady and Iggy can both STFU. Their constant negativity is sickening but typical of every Liberal since WWll. Their faux intellectual foppism is a cover for a cowardice that makes a Canadian want to upchuck.

  6. I t would appear that a lot of media types (Travers, Solomon,O'Malley), are more comptfortable with Canada just going for the Olynpic experience. You know, comptete, give everyone a hug, do your personal best.
The OTP idea. whatever the name, has certainly got the job done. The same people that abhor the chauvinism of the crowds, are often the same ones that pine for the golden years of foreign relations,(prior to 2006), when Canada was an "honest broker" and employed "soft power".
To return to those days would be unacceptable to our Olympians, who know they can compete. They also know that it is easy to be "liked" in international competition, but much more important to be respected. I say well done Canadians!

  7. If it hadn't been blasted all over the media, I wonder how many Canadians would have even noticed that parliament was prorogued. Like seriously,,, how many? lol (Kez)
