Liblogs; When Collective Selective Amnesia Attacks!

I have been blogging for nearly a year now, and it was not until recently that I took an interest in the Liblogs. A "blogging expert" on the Soloman Show cited their outrage at "torturegate" as evidence that they must be right, so I decided to delve a little deeper. They are hammering away at torturegate every day, either because they think that they can make these allegations stick, or because they have no other fecal matter to sling at the Tories. Some of them are shaken up that they have ceded the "Harper Sales Tax" as an election wedge issue.

What really stands out if you read what these people are writing, which I have been, is that they make no mention whatsoever about the Martin Government initiating the prisoner transfer agreement, and zero about Colvin saying the torture was rampant when he arrived shortly after the Conservatives defeated the Liberals in 2006. Ergo, if Colvin is credible and accurate, the previous Liberal Government committed war crimes. Any mention of that? None. The silence is deafening. In what can only described as a massive concurrent case of selective collective amnesia, the Liberal pundits are accusing the soldiers that their own administration sent into Kandahar of committing war crimes under the Liberal watch; and are outraged that the Tories did not clean up the Liberal mess soon enough.

I would encourage other Blogging Tories to check out some of these Liberal sites for story ideas. There is a goldmine of counter-punch material to inspire and muse your mind! Check out this Progressive Nut who wants to end Christmas. I'll tell you, some of these left wing opinionists belong in an insane asylum.

  2. Licia Corbella has some interesting points about the culture of abuse in Afghan society.

    It seems to me they beat each other before breakfast lunch and dinner, even on "happy" occasions.

    I suppose Afghans watching this debate will be calling their own Inquiry to ask why Taliban in prison are treated better than children at Christmas?

  3. I'm sure at least one Liblogger will be able to find a line some place where this was discussed; but note that there was a "blogging expert" on the Soloman Show to say that no Blogging Tories were talking about it, while in fact the Iceman was writing about it.

    You can't have it both ways. Why is it that Liberals, those most outraged by hypocrisy are the people most likely to engage in it?

  4. "...they make no mention whatsoever about the Martin Government initiating the prisoner transfer agreement, and zero about Colvin saying the torture was rampant when he arrived shortly after the Conservatives defeated the Liberals in 2006."

    I am not sure why BT'ers keep going on about this.

    The problem is that prisoners were tortured, but the reason this is bad for the conservatives is because they were TOLD about the torture and did nothing.

    Got any evidence the LPC government were told about the torture and did nothing? Because if you don't, the situations are not the same.

  5. Colvin himself said in his testimony that the deal initiated by the Martin Administration was flawed because it had no transparency. He goes on to say;

    "Starting in May 2006, as we in the field became aware of the scope and severity of these problems, we began informing Ottawa about them.

    We used the means available to us--that is, written reports and verbal briefings--to alert senior officials in both DFAIT and the Canadian Forces about the grave deficiencies of our detainee practices and their grave consequences."

    Well Mr. Colvin first arrived in Afghanistan in May of 2006. Right away he was informed of the severity and scope of the torture under the Martin transfer agreement? Right away? It is quite a stretch to say that the Liberals could not have possibly known about them when their own star witness says he was informed right as soon as he got there.

    Incompetence is not a valid excuse in the eyes of international law.

  6. Okay Gayle, if you say nobody said anything that shines a negative light on the Liberals, I will do my proper research. I have downloaded the entire testimony of Richard Colvin. If you'll excuse me, I have 18,000 words to read...

    Talk to you soon...
