Canucks Fans, Don't Count Your Cups Before They Hatch...

While I have jumped onto the Vancouver Canucks bandwagon with both feet, listening to the last 3 days of local sports talk radio a large volume of callers are treating the end result as a foregone conclusion. Boston may as well have touched the Eastern Conference trophy, because it is the only trophy they will win this season. Some fans are calling this the beginning of a dynasty and that not only will they win the championship this year, but for several more years. Michael Bubble was even on Pratt and Taylor talking about how great it is that his grandfather is still alive to finally see Vancouver win it all. It is fine to predict a Vancouver victory, but be careful just how far you push this envelope before any games have even been played. Don't mess up your karma.

As I texted one of my friends this morning, somebody had better tell Canuck fans that they make you play one more series before they actually give you the Stanley Cup. Normally I support hockey fans being enthusiastic and optimistic, but if you spend even 20 minutes listening to the TEAM 1040, you'll understand what I'm talking about. It is getting ridiculous, and this is coming from someone who wants the team to win. Granted if the Canucks lose, I won't be losing any sleep. I've already watched my favourite team win 4 Stanley Cups. Sometimes people ask me how I became a Detroit fan back in the 80s, and I tell them that Robocop had a profound impact on my childhood. That usually gets a laugh.

  1. The Canucks SHOULD win it all this year, but as you say....

Boston will probably pull the same stunt as Chicago did the past two seasons, put their biggest player right in front of Roberto "the sieve" Luongo, and watch him wilt. Chara's even bigger than Byfuglien.

    Canucks in six.

  2. The Bruins have a good team, but the Canucks have a lot more depth. If Luongo doesn't let in his one or two bad goals a game the Canucks will be bringing the cup home. Boston isn't going to be any pushover though, and the Canucks better be ready for a war. Canucks in 6.

  3. All I know is that if the Canucks play like they did during their last game Boston's got the cup. This break will hopefully give them a chance to recover and come back swinging. I've been waiting for a Stanley cup win for the Canucks for over 20 years. I used to go watch them lose every game in 80s and they've come a long way.

  6. How do you figure? Because I disagree with a 20 billion dollar hole in his promises? Because I'm pissed he broke his promise on the Ontario HRC's? Because I don't agree with rewarding inmates with porn, cigarettes and candy? God, I expect this kind of talk from the Blogging Liberal - I guess not all Tories are capable of intelligent debate. Just blind cheerleading for some.

  9. In fact, I would have tremendous respect for any blind person who was able to survive in the demanding world of cheerleading.

Haven't you seen the movie Bring It On? Could you imagine doing that blind? You have to throw people, catch people and dance in sync with an entire squad. To be able to do that blind would be a remarkable feat which should be applauded, not ridiculed.

I support blind people, and I support cheerleaders. What's wrong with that?
