Liberals Overestimated G20 Spending
So the federal Liberal Party accused the government of spending "over a billion dollars" on a "photo-op", but the Tories opened up the books and it was far less than a billion dollars. I suppose they can campaign on the "outrage" of buying hotel rooms for police officers, but there was actually nothing wrong with the expenses. The books were originally opened to Parliamentary Budget Officer Kevin Page, no friend of the government, and he approved it. Now that the books have been opened to the public, we have learned that the opposition greatly over-exaggerated the cost of the alleged "photo-op". Kevin Page was right.

Another wafer-gate ... exposed as a crying wolf
ReplyDeleteThe title of the Globe and Mail article that you reference is "$675-million spent on G20 security" not "$675-million spent on G20"! The Conservative government spent over $1.2 billion including $675-million in security. Over $14,000 on glow sticks, over $300,000 in sun screen and bug spray, close to $2 million for a fake lake in Toronto when there is a GREAT lake less than a kilometer away. This G8/G20 summit only proved one thing: This "conservative" government is actually is "borrow-and-spend" government!
ReplyDeleteI predict that in the next election campaign iggy and pals will still use all those false figures re the cost.
ReplyDeleteIsn't there another photo op coming soon re the G20/G8. If the PM stays home will he be vilified, and if he goes, will it be another photo op.
Regardless of whether it was 1.2 billion or 700 million it was still a horrendous waste of taxpayer's money; spent on a bunch of stripe-suit, do-nothing bureaucrats who got put up in hotels suites that 99% of the taxpayers in this country couldn't afford, got chauffeured around in stretch limos, and received gifts that would brighten any Christmas morning if people had jobs to afford them. And for all the expense and damage to Toronto this bunch of free-loaders made promises that were broken before they were on their jets headed home.
ReplyDeleteLiberalsrule, the article is not exactly clear, this is the general breakdown:
ReplyDeleteThe total cost $857-million =
with 75% of the total cost being security charges of $675-million, and
$182-million on other expenses.
Don't forget too, some of the security cost was gizmos for the forces.
They drank the gaterade but that high tec equiptment is available for use, again, next time.
Some of the G8 & G20 expenses can justifyably be put under the microscope of scrutiny. Despite this, ongoing benefits to Canada (mainly trade)will over time far outway the overall cost even if ~$1B. By comparison, the Liberal Gov't decision in 1993 to cancel the Helicopter purchase agreement and hit Canadian taxpayers with $0.5B (at least $1.5B in $2010) in penalty charges is a clear example of Gov't induced waste. Mr Ignatieff has already vowed to repeat these mistakes - IF elected!
ReplyDeleteScorpions sting, Liberals lie. That's the nature of things.

ReplyDeleteHarper has been pissing away taxpayers money like a drunken sailor. $55 billion deficit. The 41.2 billion spent on the G8 was a stupid indefensible aste of money. If a Liberal leader had incurred this outrageous debt you all would be bellyaching about that.
ReplyDeleteYou're a bunch of blind partisan hacks.
Send in your taxes Anonymous and quit your BS.PM Harper doesn't piss away anyone's money. The government spends the money ass hole.PM Harper isn't a sailor ass hole he is your PM and he does not have to defend his spending to unknown people like you.Real Canadians know the money was well spent, only Liberals and anonymous ass holes don,t understand that.
