Should We Have Daylight Savings Time?

Today's poll question; do you think that we should have daylight savings time? It is fabulous to get an extra hour in the fall, but it really sucks to lose an hour in the spring. Benjamin Franklin is credited with thinking up the idea, but it did not become policy in the western world until after WW1 to save electricity. Does daylight savings save electricity? My friends and I were able to golf today thanks to the extra hour, but one of my friends argued that the negative effects of the spring forward on the human body offset any economic gains of an extra hour in the fall.

So should we even have it? Data shows that there is a spike in traffic accidents in the days following a spring forward. There is a belief that we do it for agricultural reasons, but why then does Saskatchewan, Canada's largest farming province not adhere to the north American standard practice?

The Iggy Flop poll will be coming out soon.

  1. As a thirsty Canadian I do appreciate the extra hour at the bar. As to any other benefits I'm not so sure. It's also a good excuse to get my kids in earlier because it's dark. Hardly worth all the negative effects.

I always thought that daylight savings was just that ...more light during what we consider to be day.
In fall, with daylight savings the sun comes up before 7:00 am, without it your children would be walking to school in the dark.
Data also shows, driving to work, half asleep in the morning dark, instead of a lit up morning, also increases traffic problems.
    I'm all for it!

  4. with McFly's new hydro rates we should be scrapping DST (thats daylight savings time, not Daltons Stupid Tax). i dont know how much of a difference that would make but since were getting the screws put to us with no hope of change, at least this is a freebie that could be tried.

  5. Daylight Savings Time works, and works well, so we should have triple daylight savings time every third year!

And I propose a Daylight Groundhog's Day, where every February 2 we roll the clock back 16-1/2 hours so we can get a do-over day.
