Healthcare

Today's poll question; what is the ideal distribution of the national health care industry? Should it be completely private? Should it be completely public? Or should it be mixed? As the United States has put itself of the road to the publicization of their health care industry, perhaps they require some feedback from Canadians who have long lived in a mixed public/private system? If you had a vote on the ideal system, what would it be? Dennis Miller talks about Obamacare as being "the DMV with open wounds".

  1. Having seen my husband wait in the cold from for half an hour before a Pierrefonds, Quebec clinic opened at 9 Saturday and then be 18th already only to wait til 2:45 to be seen, I can only conclude that Canadians would never put up with this kind of service in any other kind of industry. And it is not even deep winter or in the midst of a virus epidemic.

  2. if a person has the funds to pay for a medical procedure they should be allowed to do so without having to leave the country.

  3. I don't believe we have a mixed healthcare system. If it was mixed then I could opt out of "OHIP" and go private. What we have is a segragated health system where the government tells us that we must do it their way in primary healthcare and we are on our own (which I don't mind) in dental, perscription, chiropractic, etc. If there is a way to opt out of the socialist system then it would be mixed.
I voted for mixed without reading your article, and thinking that mixed was something different than we have now.

  4. I like choice in just about everything, so I favour a mixed system. Once-size-fits-all doesn't really work for much in this world, and I've never understood why anybody would think that's a good idea with health care. By all means, have a basic public health system for people so people don't have to do without basic medical care, but why prevent people from paying to make the process more comfortable? It's like forcing everybody to ride public transit everywhere they go and forbidding people to buy their own cars.
