Alaska Rejects Sarah Palin's Advice

When Sarah Palin quit her job as Governor of Alaska before the completion of her first term to go on a lucrative speaking tour, many voices on the right said it was the wrong thing to do if she wanted a future in federal politics. I remember listening to the Laura Ingraham Show the next day and Laura, generally a big fan of Palin, recommended Sarah fire whoever advised her to quit. Fast forward to Republican primaries a year later where Palin bitterly opposed Lisa Murkowski bid to run for Alaska's senate seat. She endorsed Joe Miller who won the primary, so Murkowski decided to run as an independent. Who did Alaskans elect? Not who Palin told them they should.

Palin's inexperience may have also cost the Republicans a seat in Delaware where Palin went against the advice of Karl Rove and endorsed Christine "I am not a witch" O'Donnell, who again won the primary. In the election, the witch was crushed by 16%. Anyone seriously considering Sarah Palin for Presidential candidacy in 2012 needs to relax for some sober second thought. Sarah Palin gives Barak Obama the best shot at re-election.

  1. Just the shrill pitch of her voice is a turn off as far as I'm concerned. If she runs, Obama will get his second term for sure.

  3. I support Sarah Palin. The write in votes need to be counted and they may not all be for Murkowski. There were 159 names on the write in ballots.

  4. Good call Mike D. 30 out of 43, hmm let's see... a 70% success rate. Yeah, she's a loser allright.

Leave the snotty Palin bashing to the Bill maher/SNL crowd ok, Iceman?

  5. Sarah Palin is brilliant. She's like the Socrates of the 21st Century. Those who think she's dumb just are too blind to see it.

  6. I doubt her endorsing O'Donnell really did anything. She only did it a few days before the primary and O'Donnell already had the momentum anyway.

  8. Murkowski is not so much a Republican or a Democrat as a corrupt and corrupting consumer of federal largess. Miller was not the perfect candidate but he was and is correct to say that Alaska simply cannot continue to be a financial ward of the Federal Government.
If only because that Government is going down by the financial bow and will sooner or later be unable to support even its own operations.

As to the 'other' Palin picks', I agree that she should have been more choosy. I can see supporting Angle because she was running against Harry Reid, and it was Harry Reid. That might have been a gimme since Angle was winning the primary anyway. But O'Donnell was a BAD candidate and her endorsement of Tancredo was simply asinine. He's NUTS.
Sometimes simply being an enemy of my enemy is not enough. It really isn't.
However, I consider this to be iteration 2.0 of the Palin model, and am waiting for the improved model 3.0 to be rolled out in 2011. More substance, and less support for those who simply are not up to scratch for whatever reason. I also expect that the Tea party itself will have learned from 2010 and will not itself support losers just because it can.
You seem to find Palin to be essentially stupid at base. I think you are profoundly wrong. She is instead undisciplined and at this point relatively unsubstantial in the policy area. Those are easily correctable flaws and if you look at Palin 2.0 of this cycle as contrasted to Palin 1.0 of 2008, there is no comparison. She is far more polished now and by 2012, I expect another quantum leap. She's a very fast learner, and more importantly she is completely mis-underestimated by the scoffing class.
Next week begins Palin on Parade(aka Sarah Palin's Alaska) on TLC. She will look and sound great on that and it will get huge ratings. Karl Rove to the contrary, it will do wonders for her image.
She's NOT stupid. She just undersells.

  9. If one supports Obama, they should certainly support Palin in the primaries.
