The Russian air force feels that it is prudent to deploy bombers on practice runs towards the Labrador coast, requiring Canadian fighter jets to scramble and shadow the Ruskies. According to the agenda being set by Jane Taber et all at the Globe and Mail, using this incident to justify the need for new fighter jets is just a shameless PR campaign. Honestly, the Russian desire to send bombers towards Canadian soil is absolutely a justification for us maintaining an active air force, and our current fleet is as old as I am and crashing at air shows. It isn't just partisan politics to declare the obvious, unless the agenda you're trying to set is that everything the Tories do is wrong.
When somebody finally tells Russia that the cold war is over and they don't need to send their bombers on runs to the Canadian coast, then perhaps the need for a modern air force will be diminished. It would seem to me that they are testing our response times and readiness, and it is imperative that we pass the test and discourage them from deploying them on actual bombing missions in the future. I support Canada having a modern air force and if that makes me a blind partisan puppet, then so be it. Ring a bell, and I'll salivate...

I mean, how do you bribe the russian air force to make incursions into our airspace, to help the Conservatives convince canadians that we need new warplanes.
If Ms. Taber could discover that little diddy, she would be the greatest investigative reporter ever.!
But, alas, all we get is speculation, suggesting the Russians are helping Harper get elected.

The next time a Russian bomber tests the Canadian response Mansbridge and Taber have offered to stick a feather up their !!!!!!! and fly out to meet the Russians with their Liberal progressive underwear hanging out. Their smug expressions will show the Russians how much more dangerous they are than CF18's and how serious they are about this country's security. Can the CBC and use the funds to pay for the new planes.

Jane Taber has troubles expressing that she is canadian and as a canadian you stand by your country flag and troops and not by some party that wants to get rid of all of those values.
The day Jane stands against the liberals for the love of this country and how she(canada) is being perceived in the world as the 'best country in the world' and the pride with which she has to offer to those who seek. Jane's views of the Liberals that have shown greater respected for the radical groups instead for the safety of all canadians troops and canada, would never allow such a party like that to be in her limelight.
Jane like everyone else are entitle to support a party of choice but as a reporter she claims to be, you do not reveal your support for any party but what's good for the nation. and so far, canada has done well, but she refuses to print it therefore she is not a reporter.
It amuses me to hear the Liberals denouncing that the contract wasn't opened for bidding.

Not bloody likely. Not after investing in the F-35 on the scale in which they did.
