Our New Governor General

The Prime Minister has selected a non-partisan appointment to the position of Governor General that is getting praise from a number of prominent Liberals. There had been speculation that the PM would appoint a partisan Tory to block future coalition building attempts, but instead he has appointed the most qualified candidate. Well done, and the announcement was made the evening before the release of new poll numbers which have the Liberals below the "thin red Dion line" at 23%.

The CBC has been asking the question "what do you think you think of the new GG" and they just showed a selection of e-mails that were all negative and when they cut back to the correspondent, he had a giant smile on his face. One even accused the Harper government of not extending Jean's term because she is a successful black francophone. This is what the guy at the CBC chose from the mailbag, and he was quite enjoying himself.

All I really care about is where the new GG stands on coalition governments, with and without the Bloc's inclusion.

  1. Where are all the cries of "ivory tower intellectual out of touch with Canadians"? You guys are funny. If the Libs had appointed this guy, you'd be screaming bloody murder at the "elitism" of it all. Personally I like the choice - nothing wrong with elites - I would MUCH rather an elite than a hack.

  2. Nony, we could pick any fucking idiot for the job, just like the last ceremonial figurehead to have the position. They will ALWAYS do what Harper says.

    Suck on that, bitch.

  3. 'where the new GG stands on coalition governments, with and without the Bloc's inclusion'

Johnston chaired the 'no' side of the Quebec referendum, so he's not seppie sympathetic.

Iffy will have to state publicly that Libs will not include the Bloc, under any circumstances, in a coalition of losers, or PMSH gets his majority.
Mr Johnston will hold Iffy to that.

Unless Iffy wins a minority or LibDippers form a majority,
    PMSH keeps his job, imo.

The British election set the convention,
the party that wins the most seats and votes deserves to lead the govt.
    No coalition of losers.

  5. Another thing there Chimp Boy, we already know how you bunch of slack jawed imbeciles like “Elites”.

How else could you dummkopfs justify having just stood there, with that stupid look on your mugs when a foreigner was appointed the “leader” of your joke of a political party.

What an absolute disgrace and dishonor you’ve cursed Canada with.

  6. Once again showing confidence, leadership. Yes this is what Leadership looks like. HM PM Stephen Harper has appointed the best qualified candidate that a committee composed of non- conservatives could recommend. Sounds to me like a very qualified individual
    cheers Bubba

  7. Mr. Johnston certainly is qualified. He has quite a Curriculun Vitae to recommend him to this job, as we all have come to know, can be vital in a constitutional sense. To paraphrase an anthem from our heritage, "God Save Our Governor General".

Just one minor observation that may have been shown on another media. When he mentioned "his wife" it would have been nice if he said her actual name along with the term "my wife". One never diminishes one's wife, does one?

    Coming from a male.
