A Conference About Thinkers

While the world has been wallowing in a severe recession our politicians have been burdened with the responsibility of economic recovery. Then we have other politicians with a different set of priorities, such as how best to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday 7 years from now. That's what really matters, hence the magnitude of the upcoming "Liberal Thinkers Conference". Oxymorons notwithstanding, how far out do you start planning a birthday party? Shouldn't our 200th birthday be a much bigger party than our 150th birthday? Our 200th birthday is only 57 years away! Quick, we need ideas!

I smell an opportunity for parody. Iggy and his people are putting far too much stock in this grandiose "Thinkers Conference", which they seem to think will signal some blossoming of "big Liberal ideas". Let it be so. Hell I don't even expect Ignatieff to still be living in Canada in 2017! By then he will have been long usurped by Bob Rae, left to return to Boston in shame. I find it ironic that the man is putting so much effort into planning a birthday during which he'll likely be living abroad.

There surely must be some left wingers out there planning Canada's 200th birthday...

  1. Whenever I hear about the thinkers conference this very historic quote comes to mind:

  2. It's hard to keep track of all the nonsense coming from Iggy and about Iggy. I'm pretty sure that, when Iggy went into the telephone booth, ala Superman, and ripped off his suit, and donned his "Next Liberal Leader" costume, the spin from the Libs was: "This is our great thinker, with a giant brain, who will lead us out of the wilderness, blah blah".

So now the rhetoric is that the Libs need to hold a CONFERENCE of thinkers ??? It's obviously all total BS. Just like when they had their roundtables. There must be stacks and stacks of reports, articles, you name it, on EVERY ASPECT of governing--the different policy options, costs, benefits and the like. The Libs are re-inventing the policy wheel for the umpteenth time.

It's all useless busy work. Iggy should hit the road, and fundraise at dinners and the like.

  3. Wouldn't it be shame when this Liberal CONFERENCE of thinkers is held, it turns out that no one is qualified to attend.

  4. The Liebrals have no new ideas beyond the red book, except for the "green crew". No vision will emerge from this conference, and IFFY will be unable to sell the vision.

If you look at which leaders are needed for which types of times, this is NOT the time for a new vision. Canadians want to feel safe and have status quo. Our vision is well-defined and we want it to stay. We do need "hope & change" here, as life is pretty good. It will get worse when the HST is implemented in Ontario and BC, so federal visions of socialist programs will fall on deaf, over-taxed ears.
