Liberal Priorities

I wonder what matters more to Canadians, the economy or Afghan detainees? As we are midway through this economic recovery back into strong GDP growth and lower than expected unemployment, there are still some challenges left ahead that our parliament should be talking about. And yet as Parliament has resumed and the Liberals have been restored the ability to ask questions in the commons, they have asked 30 on Afghan detainees, and 6 on the economy. That is 5 detainee questions for each economic question. I have to thank John Ivison at the National Post for tipping me to that factitude in his fantastic column.

I get why they are focusing on their contrived controversy, because the Conservatives have done a fantastic job managing this recovery. Why ask questions about something that really affects the lives of each and every Canadian when that represents good news from the Government? So I ask those of you out there what matters to you; your job, taxes, the levers that allow your government to function, or allegations that Paul Martin and his cabinet botched a prisoner transfer agreement corrected by the current Conservative Government?
