David Suzuki is losing his mind

I grew up watching the Nature of Things, and so it bothers to see someone I once respected a great deal fly off his rocker into a cloud of delusional anger. Watching him lose it today on the Soloman Show was sad, but I suppose that's what happens to intellectuals who go all in on a losing bet. Once your whole reputation is staked on it, going back and saying that you were mistaken isn't going to sell many books.  I should qualify that I'm not just coming to this conclusion now, as Suzu began to show the symptoms of early onset activist rabies over ten years ago.  It has been a slow process, but it is now at the point where I just can't watch him at all.  The reason it has become so pronounced recently is because the Global Warming scam is being flipped on its head.  Suzuki invested too much of himself in junk science.

It was an Old Yeller moment.

  1. What do you mean by old yeller moment?
The Rabies comment suggested that you were comparing David Suzuki to Old Yeller... but I'm not sure... so thought I'd ask...

  2. I know this won't be a popular thought, but:

As more and more people realize the extent to which the climate alarmists have been dealing in intimidation and deception, I hope people realize that Suzuki was also deceived, and I hope he's forgiven quickly.

  3. The comparison to Old Yeller was in reference to an individual you were once fond of turning on you. I was not suggesting that David Suzuki should be shot, because that is not something that I advocate. If that is what you implied Anon1152, then you would be incorrect.

I respect his right to have his opinion and express it publicly, I'm just saying that I can't listen to him anymore.

  4. Ice,

I'm listening to it right now.

    Suzuki has begun to rant...
    ...Canadian's ought to be ashamed...
...politicians tend to stay out of my way...
...Mr. Harper has consistently not been interested in me...
...do you agree that if we don't have air for two minutes we're dead...
...I am a Dick Cheney guy...
...I'm going in with all guns blazing...
...its Dick Cheney, David Friedman and me...

Suzuki is just losing his moisture. You know how you get old and start to dry out. Sad, but it will happen to us all. It's too bad. He sees himself as sort of a God, or perhaps just a Prophet. He's probably getting to that point in his life that if you asked him straight up "are you a prophet?" he would answer honestly.

At some point in the not to distant future his Foundation will start not inviting him to Board meetings and even media like the CBC will stop asking him his opinion.

  5. Suzuki was going off the deep end alright. He was shouting at the camera and totally losing it.

I used to like him too Iceman, but he has become a parody of the man he used to be.

    Very sad.

  6. "I hope people realize that Suzuki was also deceived"

Sorry Patrick...Suzuki is a scientest ( albeit a botonist - not an environmentalist)...he SHOULD know that science is not settled...he should remember back when he was calling the next ice age just around the corner, he should know, scientifically, that the earth has warmed and cooled several times over.

If he didn't, and he was hoodwinked then I would recind his science degrees.

Sorry, he was one of the biggest scammers and made alot of money from his scam.

  7. Patrick Ross,

I don't believe he was tricked into advocating for a Carbon Tax regime for the Liberals. He spoke against the NDP for splitting the vote and environmental lobby. He is using his celebrity status to push his agenda.

Like many of us, we want to tackle pollution locally and safe clean drinking water. Priorities have to be made with limited tax dollars for maximum benefit.

We can't stop/afford to pay China, India from dumping into atmosphere as they try to catch up to our standard of living.

Many of us simply want a verifiable system and review before making substantial changes to our way of life.

    Who is watching the gatekeepers?

David or Ann should be allowed to sell their entertainment views on any campus or audience.

  8. I suppose we should forgive Al Gore along with the "Fly Guy". Hell lets forgive and forget every lying SOB who has swindled people out of billions. Group Hug maybe will FIX everything.

  9. I think he would sell a lot of books to acknowledge the AGW scam and apologize.

Its not about that. He was a radical before anyone knew him, then he got professional and the cbc bought in.

Yes, Suzuki is a scientist. But he's a geneticist, not a botanist.

"he SHOULD know that science is not settled...he should remember back when he was calling the next ice age just around the corner, he should know, scientifically, that the earth has warmed and cooled several times over."

According to many of the peer-review journals, the science was settled.

Of course what we know now is that individuals like Phil Jones were manipulating the peer review process to exclude any studies they disagree with.

If you could show me that David Suzuki was a participant in this deception, I'd be willing to agree with some of that, but it seems to me that Suzuki has been as deceived as anyone.

After all, he's not a climatologist, and doesn't actually pretend to be -- he bases his advocacy on the claims of climatologists which, we have seen, turns out be less than fully sincere.

  12. I'm another one who used to like and respect him. I used to regularly watch his Nature of Things show in the '70s and quit enjoyed it. I thought Suzuki was quit a pleasant man too.
He has totally lost it now. It's rather sad when you think about it.

  13. Patrick,

So you’d have us forgive and forget Suzuki even though he continues peddling the same propaganda that you want us to forgive and forget him about?

    Surreal!

  14. I said forgive in time.

Suzuki doesn't seem to have clued in to the extent to which he himself has been deceived. He still have the blinders on.

Personally, I don't blame the people who have been deceived, unless they willfully allowed it (whether or not you think this is the case with David Suzuki will be a matter of your own personal opinion). I blame the deceiver.

Think about it this way: you can waste your time holding it against Suzuki (whose greatest error, in my view, is that of being a dupe) or you can spend your time working to hold people like Phil Jones and Al Gore accountable.

It's your choice, really. I know what my choice is.

  15. I'm watching the nature of things atm on cbc newsworld, and it's some other asshole hosting it. I was baffled when they said "Battery technology just isn't there" in reference to electric cars. Do they even do research anymore, and this is a 2010/2011 show!!! I'm astounded.
