Of Liberals and Dippers

One has to wonder if there is some tension between the Liberals and the NDP. Prior to the budget vote when the opposition was allowed to table amendments to this critically important legislation, the Liberals voted with the Tories against the Dippers proposal to raise business taxes. It is very curious why an opposition united in its lack of confidence in the governing party would not at least attempt to amend the budget. Not even a symbolic gesture to protect public sector pensions?

Many of us have speculated that Ignatieff has already made a deal with Jack Layton, but what if the real deal is between Layton and Rae? You have to wonder what agreement Bobby made with his NDP brethren before joining the Liberal Party. They had to talk about it, and you know that it is every Liberal's wet dream to absorb the NDP. Bob Rae has to be the most likely candidate to accomplish that objective.

  1. Elsewhere today is a report that iggy says he doesn't trust Layton/Duceppe. Is he trying to convince us that the coalition is dead. Is he trying to tell us there is tension among the coup leaders. I, for one do not believe him.

  2. The coalition will be done in two steps.

Create groundswell against prorogue. Limit and introduce motions.

Fight an election hope CPC don't get majority. Lib and NDP need to have 1 seat more to for coalition without Bloc.

If CPC don't win majority, phase 2 begins.
Harper's next minority will fall early on Throne Speech/Budget six weeks after election. forcing GG to ask Iggy he can form a government.

NDP/Lib will have deal done, Iggy statements look to be a misdirect about trusting the other two leaders.

  3. Weird political games over the 10%er motion eh.

Cons voted against the motion because of the partisan wording, but PMSH says good idea,
Cons support getting rid of 10% AND all subsidies to political parties (yeehaw, is there a motion coming and Harper just served notice?)

Dippers voted with Libs, motion passed, but behind the scenes they have (according to Fife)made a deal with Cons to stop it being implimented,

Libs have started immediately ending 10%ers going into other ridings and it looks like they will be the only party to do so....ha

And Iffy nowhere to be seen.

Motion, Jack's, limiting prorogation passed, all media saying non-binding, just politics with no teeth and a meaningless waste of time

  4. I thought it was odd that the government didn't whip up enough votes to defeat Jack's prorogation motion today. More Liberals showed up to vote on that than showed up to vote on the budget.

  5. Bummer for the Libs today, eh Iceman.
Pass a motion on 10%ers and prorogation limits on the PM,
    and neither are binding.
Board of Internal Economy can nix the flyer motion and the Constitution nixs the prorogy motion.....real bummer, ha

    Ralph Goodale :
"If the House of Commons has the authority, which it does, to order government departments to produce documents on issues as crucial as Afghanistan, then one would think that the House of Commons equally has the authority to issue instructions to an administrative body to save money," Goodale said.

    Actually Ralphie,
the Board of Internal Economy has exclusive authority over MPs and their spending,
the Parliament Act was amended, Bill C-79, by MPs in 1991 giving the board exclusive authority.

  6. I spent most of the day on the golf course, but wilson I have nearly finished my next post on Layton's prorogation motion. It is scheduled for 8:15am Pacific time. I have never written about the 10%er thing because I just don't care. Allow it, don't allow it, I am completely indifferent. I suppose my opinion would be if political parties want to mail out flyers, go ahead, just don't bill tax payers. Honestly I just don't care about that one.

The prorogation motion is different. The Tories could have whipped the vote to block it with the Fellowship of the Igg on the listening tour, but it was allowed to pass. Either they don't care because it is non binding, or the Prime Minister has no intention of proroguing again anytime soon.
