Throne Speech on NHL Trade Deadline Day?

When the Prime Minister decided that the throne speech was to be delivered on March 3rd, was he aware that this conflicted with what has almost become a national holiday in Canada, the NHL trade deadline? I am furious! I think that I might even start a Facebook group, "Canadians Against Throne Speeches on NHL Trade Deadline Day" or CATSNTD for short. How am I expected to decide between the Governor General and Bob MacKenzie?

James Duthie is much more entertaining than Michaelle Jean. I'm sorry people if you had an expectation that I would watch and interpret the throne speech, but this is the trade deadline. Fortunately there haven't been many if any exciting trades, unless you count the Canucks adding Yan Stastny to gear up for a run at the Cup. I have watched some bits and pieces of the trone speech. It is very boring, even for a policy wonk like me.

  1. The Throne Speech was brilliant and to be completely serious, likely the most patriotic one I have ever listened too.

The NHL deadline? I can catch that later, it won't affect my future or that of my family...just sayin'

  2. If Shilo for the NDP can have a 'facebook on how dare he prorogue, never mind if ndp bob rae prorogued his own government or the liberals, theirs.

Why not you, I am sure the media will join you since they like looking into facebooks for anything negative of the prime minister. You might go on television you ole goat.

  3. I didn't watch the throne speech either. That's just an exercise in wishful thinking filled with the usual lies put out by politicians to dupe a gullible public. The budget...now that's different. That one means something.

I didn't watch the activities at the hockey trading deadline as well. To watch a supposedly adult bunch of commentators go all ga-ga and breathless over the trade of Boris Uselessnov for Bobby Lazyasahound doesn't make my day.

Any nation that televises, and gets great ratings for a pond hockey tournament and gets all tense over which town will be picked as hockey town, or hockey village, or hockey something-or-other tells me all I need to know about the intelligence level of the people we expect to make reasoned decisions when it comes to voting time.

A big thumbs down to both non-events!

  4. The Social Media via Facebook has failed to help the NDP with their perogie protest. Less than 20k bothered to show up from 220k mouse clicks. Just pathetic.

I suspect very few people are tuning into the Throne Speech or the NHL draft.

Heck the CBC may have even higher viewership.

  5. Actually Mr. Lucas, I was watching the Trade Deadline coverage, and I was going all breathlessly ga-ga on Darren Dreger's every last word.

What is it exactly that you have against pond hockey? You and I may need to have words in the parking lot! :)

  7. "....I would like to know why you think it was brilliant."

Following on the heels of the Olympics, it had a very patriotic, pull together, we can do this but we need to do more, theme. I found it extremely well written for 'everyday' Canadians and all encompassing, even emotional at times.

That speaks to the 'Tim Horton's' crowd, our military and individuals that are currently struggling.

It's not the budget, it's intended as the national TONE and that is almost as critical. Things are about to change and I GOT THAT!

I'm certain that he was aware.

  9. I was playing computer games while listening to the throne speech and I thought our Governor Gen came across very well and empathic as if she herself had written the speech.
I didn't like some minor aspects like how it now proposed that anyone in the world can buy our uranium companies. But that's just me, I want to keep everything Canadian for Canadians.

  10. HArper had nbothing to say in the throne speech. HE purposely picked the date hoping this uselss speech would be buried on page 14 while hockey news is on page 1.
