Helena of Troy
Helena, it's time to abdicate your ministry. There was once a mythical beauty whose face launched a thousand ships, but today's Canadian political incarnation has launched a thousand headaches. I am not advocating her expulsion from caucus, but with the distractions in her personal life she should resign from cabinet. I am not simply coming to this conclusion now, as I have seen the writing on this wall for a number of weeks.
This latest controversy that her staffers wrote letters to editors to support their boss feels like it came from an episode of Saved by the Bell. If they did it because they support their boss and the minister truly had no knowledge of it, then no infraction has been committed. If she ordered the action, then that is not conduct becoming of a cabinet minister. In either case, she has endured a very difficult ordeal in her personal life and she should abdicate her responsibilities until the dust settles. Either the Prime Minister should step in and do it for her, or she must do it herself. It's time.

Oh Screech! Zack thinks that Jesse should quit. But if we don't watch out, she might become a stripper or something!

I disagree,
ReplyDeletefrom all accounts Helena has been in total control of her ministerial file and dedicated to her job.
Her husband messed up HIS life, and 2 of her staff support her and wrote articles voicing that support.....so what?
Whats the big deal, really?
She had a hissy fit, and someone ran to Wayne Easter. She apologized, which is sufficient for any other MP, why not Helena?
We have Lib MPs making up stories about crosses burning, Lib MPs calling for the 'hanging' of an ex-PM, Lib MPs saying outrageous things on a regular basis and they are still sitting MPs, re-elected.....why single out Helena?
Because she is a Minister, or because she is Conservative and Cons have to be twice as competant, twice as 'clean', twice as 'human', twice as accountable as a Liberal.
It's a tiresome self inflicted 'better than Libs' requirement Cons have set for themselves.
So Fife is on CTV saying that Helena has a fan club, her staff....then says Helena has not been able to hang onto staffers because no one likes her.
ReplyDeleteWhich of the above is true Fife?

It is absurd, ridiculous and unfair to expect Guergis to resign because of what her staffer did without her knowledge. Keep things in perspective as well - what irreparable harm has been done by the staffer writing a letter in support of her superior - she told no lies and did not misrepresent anything.
ReplyDeleteThis is just more piling on , more character assassination. Next we will hear that Guergis's dog peed on her neighbors pyramidal cedar - Liberals are getting desperate as they continually fail to impact with Canadians.
Ms. Taber didn't bother to comment or find fault with the Liberals when they were found guilty of planting senior Ignatieff strategist and former CBC lawyer Mark Sakamoto in a H1N1 vaccine line-up to complain about the Conservatives handling of the roll out of the vaccine.
ReplyDeleteDoes she have a double standard? Did she ask for any resignation , a slap on the wrist or did she just ignore the story - after all it is a Liberal and they can do no wrong.
However we were exposed to Wayne(doorknob)Easter and his histrionics in the House about Guergis.
In the Sakamoto controversy Harper and Conservatives did not ask for resignations and try to blow the incident up into a big scandal - in fact the opposite was true and as you can see they deliberately downplayed it.
What is more can't you all be impressed by the way Harper handled this controversy - he said the party will not be commenting - how different from Ignatieff and Wayne (dooknob Easter) who try to blow this minor incident into a scandal with help from a subservient media .
At the time of the Sakamoto incident Taber's column was
"1. The politics of H1N1. Did the Ignatieff Liberals really plant one of their own to complain on national television about the shortage of vaccine? Indeed, the accusations are flying today with the Harper PMO sending out an alert to all of its MPs, Senators and staffers urging them not to respond or comment about a news story on CBC's The National last night “in which an employee of Michael Ignatieff’s office appears in a ‘street interview’ as an ordinary citizen concerned about the supply of H1N1 vaccine.”
The notice, sent via email, goes on to “urge MPs not to respond to the transparent attempt to pass off an Ignatieff staffer as a non-partisan Canadian. We will not be commenting on the incident. It is very sad and unfortunate that the Ignatieff Liberals are desperately attempting to politicize the H1N1 preparedness efforts of the federal and provincial governments.”

"Canadians don't get to apologize"
ReplyDelete-Mike Ignatieff
That is an odd statement. If Canadians do something stupid, albeit legal, they are not allowed to say they are sorry. I did not know that.
So Fife is on CTV saying that Helena has a fan club, her staff....then says Helena has not been able to hang onto staffers because no one likes her. Does that make sense to anyone besides Robert Fife and Wayne(doorknob) Easter?
ReplyDeleteWhich of the above is true Fife?
You can't have it both ways. What's wrong with Fife's picture.
Do you believe there are any Conservatives that would share party inside information with Robert Fife?
Canadians don't get to apologize"

Seems to me Iffy was on bended knee asking for forgiveness infront of his caucus for SERIUOSLY messing up on the abortion vote....and he supposed to be a leader, a PM in waiting, not holding a low profile ministerial position.
And he did it, not one of his staff.
I laugh at the fool
