Prime Minister Layton? No Chance.

I have heard some rumblings today that the coalition negotiations taking place between the Liberals and Dippers may produce a Jack Layton leadership bid, and all I have to say is that there is zero chance of that happening. The Liberal Party of Canada is not going to negotiate a partnership agreement with the NDP that does not put a Liberal in the Prime Minister's Office. They might be getting cold feet on their current impotent leader, but Prime Minister Layton will not happen. I don't think there is even a 1 in 100 chance. It is probably more likely that the NDP win more seats than the Liberals than it is to have the Libs abdicate leadership.

It is a fun little theory to muse about, but the LPC believes with every fabric of their being that they are entitled to run Canada. They aren't giving that up to a blowhard like Jack Layton. A Bob Rae coup is more likely than a Layton led coalition.

  1. Merging the NDP and Liberals - without Rae in charge? It could be the final nail in the Coalition. Layton would deliver the utimate "wedgie" to his former soulmate, Bob. Cheers.

  2. Agreed it is fun to point out how the media have written of the current leader now and the next in line won't be much better.

The Pollster asked about Layton, I wished he asked about the young Dauphin instead.

He has a better bloodline. Almost royalty by if you ask the media.

Angus was the best pollster in 2008 and it was interesting watching how little movement the GP base had with either Liberal at the helm.

  3. These guys are a very dysfunctional family and as this all plays out, the month turn into years since Ignatieff arrived on his illusionary white horse, and fell on his face,it has become abundantly clear that there are 2 factions in the Liberal Party and neither one can stand the other.

It goes beyond dislike, it's an out and out destroying hatred.

  4. Ha! I wish I could watch that happen to another universe. It would suck to live it though.

The Liberals only know one thing for sure: elite means them and them alone. All Layton has to do is trick them into thinking that would still be true.

It won't be preceived as fearmongering for the Cons to run against PM Layton,

  6. Let the Liberals and the NDP join to form an actual party like the Alliance and the PCs did. Then we could have real knock-down, drag-out between the right and left in this country.

  7. There is no way a coalition could be formed without the Bloc. And, what if, for their support they demand Layton be PM and Duceppe deputy PM.

  8. I have been saying for a few years now that if the NDP makes common cause with the Liberals you will see a massive blue liberal defection from the party. That defection is likely to land in the world of the modern centrist Conservative party. Too many NDPers have moved to the Liberals already causing changes to the Liberal character. They are rapidly losing the main stream traditional Liberal supporters.Bob Rae and others like Gerard Kennedy are actually NDP types who want a chance to govern. They have not changed their stripes in any way.
