Alberta To The Rescue

I must admit that it was touching to see several Alberta firefighters boarding a plane to travel to Quebec to help them put out the wildfires threatening a number of communities. For all the animosity that exists between the two provinces, in a serious crisis we are all Canadians. I find it to be a confusing contradiction when Quebec politicians bloviate about shutting down the oil patch, when that same oil patch has produced billions of dollars of equalization money that Quebec politicians are all too eager to accept. Hopefully Jean Charest can suspend his Alberta hate long enough to say thank you to all those firefighters getting off the plane to help save those threatened rural communities.

Didn't it snow in Calgary yesterday? I don't think that Alberta is in any imminent danger from wildfires right now. The east however, is stuck in a heat wave. In Vancouver, it has been raining a lot, but what else is new?

  1. Yes, it snowed. Supposed to snow again tonight. This is the worst spring since 2002. Where is global warming when you could really use it?

  2. It snowed in the Calgary area for a few days and then yesterday in Northern Alberta. There has been a fire ban in the north because of the dry conditions. We are grateful (farmers and foresters especially) for the reprieve. So its good that our firefighters are able to travel to Quebec. Its not the "people" that cause problems, its politicians looking for advantage. Cheers.

  3. Hopefully when they yell "Hot spot" instead of "Point chaud", the language police won't be hiding behind a tree ready to pounce. (sarc)

I do find it ironic indeed after the low blows and childish jabs, their arrogant Premier tossed out.
The fact that you even have to muse about whether he will acknowledge these firefighters says everything that needs to be said about the clown. He's a selfish and arrogant man that hasn't demonstrated the class or wisdom to know for sure what he would do.
