Culture of Cooperation???

I think the breaking news today that the Government is fully cooperating with Ralph Goodale of all people took many pundits by surprise on both sides of the aisle. You had right wingers expecting the Government to take a stand on sensitive documents being made public, and left wingers expecting the Government to stonewall in order to cover up their own alleged war crimes. I was surprised myself to see Goodale so excited about cooperation, and I am still trying to wrap my brain around it.

I went to visit the Liblogs for some left wing commentary on Goodale's happy feelings of cooperation, and I was stunned by the sound of their silence. The only Liblogger who even wrote about it was skeptical, and they as a group clearly don't know what to make of this. If the Government committed war crimes as many leftards assert, then why would they possibly cooperate? If they are covering up their own evils, then they should in theory fight any sharing of the documents to the bitter end. If they are willing to share, then perhaps the initial claim that it was about national security was in fact an honest reality.

Kady O'Malley's words on the matter were "cautious optimism...for now"

  1. It is painful for those on Lib blogs the correct term is culture of retreat.

Finances, Dion level support. Not a great deal to be happy about.

Brian Mulroney gave limited access and this is the only option unless they want to ask the people on the ballot.

  2. When the day comes that the Liberals regain power they will have to live with whatever rules that are added to the security issue. Rest assured, they will regain power. Hopefully, non too soon.

  3. The leftards see what they want to see in Harper. In their minds, he is a dictatorial bully who insists on 'my way or the highway'. But if you look at his record, he has shown himself to be a very good negotiator.

Some examples: uniting the right; the softwood lumber deal; the blue ribbon panel deal with Iggy on EI-360; Canadian exemption from Obama's 'buy America' program.

Anyway, it's still early in the negotiations, and things might fall apart. But IF Harper gets a deal, I expect it to be a good one for our side. There is no reason for him to "give away the farm", so to speak, considering Iggy's compromised position--election unpreparedness, and weak control of his caucus.

Because no war crimes were committed. Of course, the government knew that already and obliged the Liberals and their "leader" when they asked for more rope. Well, there is only one thing that can be done with that much rope, and it is because of so many occasions in the past 4 years that the Liberals know EXACTLY what to do with it. :D
