Detainee Deadline Today

This afternoon marks the two week deadline set by Peter Milliken for the opposition and the government to come to a file sharing agreement on Detainee-gate. When negotiations first began, chief Liberal negotiator Ralph Goodale said that everything was going great and that they would likely reach an agreement before the deadline, catching many Tory and Liberal pundits off guard. But since then, talks seem to have hit a snag and the general public can't be sure what they are snagged on (don't worry, if you want to know, Donolo will likely leak the snag to Taber soon)

To make matters more interesting, the rumour mill is a buzz with word that the NDP has some pointed non confidence or contempt motion that they are waiting to introduce should negotiations fail. Granted it may be more bark than bite, but it should be some time before we see it. I expect if an agreement is not reached by the afternoon deadline today, then the Speaker will simply extend the deadline.

  1. I like it. The NDP will float a non confidence motion knowing full well that there will be many Liberals who will come down with an acute case of Ignatieff fever that day.

A win win for the NDP (the next official opposition)

BTW: what the hell is going on with the Habs! Game 7, and ANYTHING can happen.

  2. Each party member has to sign An Oath that none of what they read in that 'SECRET DOCUMENT' is ever to be reveal to the public or to the media, in case it will endanger the lives of the troops whom we know already that the opposition parties and their media have no interest of protecting.

  3. Bring on the election. I do agree that the ndp could be the next official opposition, if Layton has decided to throw the liberals under the bus. Would the libs campaign on, we will make all documents public. And of course, if elected, would hide them deeper than they are.

  4. Does anyone know what NDP MP Jack Harris is supposed to have said that had even Ralph Goodale kind of suggesting that certain MP's might not be able to keep their mouths shut wrt to the detainee documents? I missed that part of Power Play. Anybody?
