Calgary's road to the playoffs goes through Vancouver...twice

I am assuming that the eyes of all Calgary hockey fans will be closely watching the city of Vancouver tonight, where the Canucks host the Colorado Avalanche. The Canucks have clinched the division, while Colorado remains two points up on the Flames for the last playoff spot with a game in hand. The Flames will be playing the San Jose Sharks who are currently in first place in the conference and would play the Flames in the first round (unless Chicago is able to catch them in the next few days). Fortunately for the team that can’t score, Nabokov can’t stop a beach ball these days.

Hopefully things work out and the drama escalates to Saturday Night in Canada when the Calgary Flames visits GM Place. We could see some very exciting drama before the playoffs even begin! Personally I think every hockey fan in the country should be watching tonight's Canucks/Avalanche game and cheering for Van City. Granted my Canucks fandom should be short lived, as there is a 65% chance that Vancouver will be playing my Detroit Red Wings in the first round. I will be one of the few brave souls walking the streets of Vancouver wearing a Wings jersey. But I do confess that when Steve Yzerman retired, a part of me died on the inside.

Dread the Red!

  1. I had no idea you owned the Detroit Red Wings,Ice, I'll have to give you all the respect due a multi-billionaire in my future posts.

I used to watch the Wings on TV when Gordie Howe was lined up with DelVecchio and Mahovlich. Great team. The Yzerman led Wings were a beauty for years, what a team!

Don't get too excited about the Canucks,I've watched them in person since they were a Western League team, with foes like the Seattle Totems,Portland Buckaroos and San Diego Gulls, they were a very good team in those days, that League. Since 1969,NHL time, they've never won the BIG ONE,and they DON'T have the killer instinct that's needed to finish an opponent off.

Example; the '94 series against the Rangers. The Canucks will come close as they've done twice, but will NOT win the big one. They'd better hope they don't meet Chicago in the playoffs, or it'll be all over in a rush.

    It's traditional.

  2. And this evening, Calgary lost, the Canucks lost, and the Flames were eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs.
