Ipsos Reid: Conservatives 37%, Liberals 27%

In the latest poll released by Ipsos Reid, the Conservatives have opened up a 10 point lead on the hapless Ignatieff led Liberals. What's most intriguing is that this polling was done a week after Thinkapalooza, when the Liberals should have been expecting a bounce in support, if only temporary. In fact it would appear that they turned people off, and when combined with their partisan bloviating in the House of Commons has returned reality to equilibrium.

If you lived in a reality where all your Parliamentary news came only from the mouth of Terry Milewski, you might be dumbfounded as to how the daily crying of the wolves could not have swung opinion numbers towards the Liberals. When you shift to the left, you lose the center. The center will rarely follow a political party on a leftward shift, unless the leader has some abnormal charisma or oratory skills (neither of which Iggy has).  When Iggy proclaimed the Thinkers Conference to be a "game changer" he might have been correct, though not in the manner he intended...

I love it!  Back in during the height of PROROGUEWATCH when the EKOS numbers had the polls tied, I said things would return to normal when parliament was back in session.

  1. The calls are coming to top up the donation...hmm

Are the Liberals serious with their outrageous BS tour?
Surely Canadians will see that for every day that the anointed one is in the HoC, he is away more. Are they interested in his committee time or lack thereof?

God help us if these clowns are ever put into power.
Come on Jack, start picking at a few bones from your irrelevant counterparts, the Libs. Let's make them take a serious period of time to reflect.

What did you think of the Masters?
I think that Tiger could have been about 2 up from Mickelson and won had he wanted it bad enough. His mistakes were purely a lack of concentration, imo. A great match and an emotional favorite won. Terrific day!

  3. Iceman, maybe you can help us out here. Is Ipsos Reid doing something different than all the other pollsters? Because even Nanos had it deadlocked the last time

  4. can't speak as much to Nanos because they are not releasing nearly as many polls as EKOS and Ipsos these days. Somebody has to pay for the polling, and the CBC is paying EKOS while Canwest is paying Ipsos.

The big red flag with EKOS is that all their polling has the Green Party way above what they possibly can be. There are a lot of people evidently who say Green to a telephone pollster but won't vote that way in a ballot box. Greens poll higher than their vote totals every election. That EKOS has inflated Green numbers is a cautionary tale. Trust me, 13% of the country does not intend to vote Green. I'd bet my life on it.

Most polling firms have the Liberals in the 28% range. I would say most variability right now is in Conservative support.

  5. Iceman,

Just a quick question for you.

The polls seem all over the place, Ipsos does seem to put the conservatives a few points higher than other pollsters.

I also think Green is too high. How do you think the Green vote would break in an election?

Do you see this Guergis spectacle harming CPC numbers, in the next set of polls to come out?

    Thanks

  6. What did you think of the Masters?

Very happy for Michelson and his family, Bec!

  7. The Masters was outstanding! It would have been more dramatic with Tiget and Phil together in the last pair, but even as it was I enjoyed it. You really had to feel great for the winner.

  8. I was happy to see a gentleman like Michelson win. Tiger is no gentleman.

  10. The opposition is planning to bombard the Conservatives on the Guergis affair tomorrow in QP.

I predict another jump in Conservative support as a result.

The opposition don't know when to let up on a dead end issue or to address the real concerns of Canadians.

  11. The PM will be in Washington tomorrow at a meeting with world leaders re nuclear problems.
But, questions could be answered with,
This is under investigation, and if it takes as long as the rcmp investigation into the liberal problems with Income Trusts, results will out in about 14 months. We will comment at that time.
Or, as that mp is no long sitting in our caucus, your question is out of order, unless of course you would like to answer questions re the theft of money from the EI fund, or adscam, even thou you members of the political class are no longer sitting mps.
I must watch QP tomorrow and watch iggy make a fool of himself, again.

  12. Speaking of the Nuclear Summit, it seems a bit strange that Obama didn't invite any of the rogue Nations that everyone is worried about developing nuclear weapons.
