Happy Hour with Jack Layton

EKOS released a poll today of what federal leader Canadians would most like to have a beer with, and the winner was none other than Lucky Jack Layton. If you are lucky enough to get to go out for a drink with Jack, be on the lookout for TV cameras because he just might shove you out of the way if you get in his shot. 40% of the respondents in the poll did not register a vote (either because they don't drink or don't care), but Jack finished first with 26%, Stephen Harper 23%, and Ignatieff a distant 3rd at 10%. It didn't say whether or not Elizabeth May was included as an option in the poll, but I would imagine the majority of men would be cautious of such a social encounter, as alcohol can impair both your vision and your decision making...

Please ladies and gentlemen, consume your alcohol responsibly.

Speaking of EKOS polls, their latest today has the Green Party surging to almost %13. I guarantee you that 13% of Canadians will NOT vote Green in the next federal election whenever that is and I would wager a large sum of money on it. Again EKOS is the only polling firm that consistently bumps the Greens that far ahead of their election day take. If you see a poll with the Greens at %13, the poll is tainted.

  1. The question I would ask if I went out for a beer with each of the party leaders:

Harper: How are you going to pull the plug?
Ignatieff: Who the fuck do you think you are?
Layton: Prostate cancer aside, you're just a rat bastard aren't you?
Duceppe: How do you square the circle with your Marxist leanings bankrupting Quebec and the waning influence of Quebec on the Canadian political landscape vis a vis seat distribution?
May: Do you think that if your party eschewed the AGW thing and went more for the clean rivers and streams type of environmentalism that you'd have more resonance with Canadian voters?

Why I'd ask these questions of:

Harper: The economy is going to tank and he's gotta take a shot before it does.
Ignatieff: Gaffe after gaffe, I believe he is only hanging on for that one election he'll be allowed to lose. He gets one shot no matter how bad he is.
Layton: Is a rat bastard, I think.
Duceppe: Flailing for relevance. Unretired after the PQ job that he thought was his by convention wasn't. Perhaps Marxism had something to do with that.
May: Because she is a useful idiot. I think she's been co-opted by the 'urgency' of AGW and dropped all of the other valid concerns of the Green Party.

    That said:
    Election this year.
    Housing bubble is bursting.
Can't win when the election is about the 'economy, stupid'.

  2. I love the new layout. The mountain background is great. Kind of looks like the cover of the last Tory election platform.

Anyway, I'd go for a beer with Jack Layton. I went and heard him talk once while I was in University at UofS. Talk was at a pub and he seemed to quite enjoy his beer.

  3. Spent an hour in a meeting with Duceppe once; he's a scary racist totalitarian dick. Layton is a garden variety, bull-shitting know-it-all you can find in any bar.
Iggy would probably be fun to drink with -- although you'd have to torture me to get me to vote for that bunch of thieves again.
A beer with Harper would be tense. He'd never let his hair down and spill. But if he did, I'm sure we'd agree on nearly everything. Well, maybe not religion. But everything else, so I'd give him a pass on that.

  4. If you look at the 2008 Results and Ekos you will find the CPC were underpolled by 3 pts and the Green were +3. I like to also read the comments included in the summaries and lately they have become highly subjective.

All the Polls are noise, campaigns matter and your personal "situation" including your family and circle of friends has more influence.

Watch the recap of Nanos on October 15, 2008, he states people made up their minds around the thanksgiving table. Most of the surge occurred on the last day and most pollsters were NOT polling.
In Oct 2008 Employment was 94% in 2009 92%. Taxes, costs are going up for a large number of activities some are hidden in fees.

Who will get punished for the money in your wallet not going as far in 2010-2011

    a) Federal
    b) Provincial
    c) Municipal
