Liberals Or NDP Greater Electoral Threat?

Today's poll question in the aftermath of the Liberal convention, err Bob Rae coronation; which party represents the greatest threat to the Conservatives in the next Canadian federal election? There are some on the right who would like to see a modest revival of the Liberal party because they are frightened about the NDP sitting in opposition as the "government in waiting". However a strong Liberal party is a greater threat to seduce the Tory left flank than a strong NDP. It is about choosing the lesser of two evils. The most likely outcome of the next election is probably a Tory minority that will see the opposition vote against the throne speech and ask to form government. Whichever of the Liberals or Dippers wins the most seats in that scenario will get the keys to 24 Sussex.

I believe that another Tory majority in the next election is more likely than either the Liberals or NDP finishing in first place alone. This will be especially true if both screw up their leadership races. The NDP are a virtual lock to select a less popular leader than their previous guy, whereas for the Liberals, just about anybody will be stronger than Ignatieff. I'm hoping that Gerard Kennedy runs. As a Conservative with every intention of voting as a $0 "supporter" in the Liberal leadership race, Gerard would get my vote for sure. Gerry has the opposite of the "Midas touch", as everything he touches turns to s**t. He still has a 0% chance of winning if he does enter the race, unless he can get enough votes from Tory moles trying to scorch the earth.

Come on guys, we can do this!

  1. I am not worried who represents a greater threat to conservatives... its which of the two are greater threat to Canada! Conservatives should be fighting for the country not trying to save their own ass. That's what Liberals do.

  2. Cool, glad to hear you'll be signing a pledge that you support broadstrokes Liberal values and are not a member of another federal party :)

  3. I'm just excited that I can help shape the future of the Liberal Party without having to pay any money.

  4. IMO "Liberals" have illustrated their intentions to continue to steal votes from the commies and marxists of the NDPQ by veering hard left. "Liberals" have their "new" permanent leader in NDP Bob, and have armed themselves with the "renewal" of the 1993 Red Book, along with the preposterous assertion that they will legalize weed... even though they won't. Lefty's should be flocking to the "renewed" Liberals and their new permanent leader NDP Bob, this of course assures the Conservatives will be re-elected as the only sane party worth voting for, and relegating the NDPQ back to turd place. The "Liberals" have NDP Bob as their leader and the NDPQ will have French citizen and radical lefty Mulcair as their leader and both will be fighting for the scraps of the lefty hordes. With the precarious position of the world these days and the EU on the precipice of bankruptcy I can't see enough Canadians deciding to risk it all by voting for either of these 2 radical power at any cost party's.

  5. I still want to know how one can be a non paying supporter if you do not belong to another party. How would the liberals know if I am a card carrying member of another party. I would certainly leave such card at home. Are they admitting they have access to membership lists of all parties. People do lie you know. First they ask all ndpqers who are not happy with the new leader to come on down. But to vote in said election you have to be a paid up member.
As far as their pot promise, those in favor of that should realize it will be years before that happens. First they have to win govt, then pass a throne speech, then introduce the bill and get it passed. Finally they have to get the senate approval and that will be difficult as our majority will say no.
Funny they were not told this in the debate.

Thats the other shoe waiting to drop.
For that reason the liberals will want EC funding to leadership contests.

  6. The greatest threat to a continued Conservative Government is neither the Libs or NDP or any meager but the Conservative Party itself. It must always be mindful it works on behalf of all Canadians and they will prevail. It doesn't mean they not be ever viligant of the others but the same attention should be taken with itself.

  7. Leave it to the NDP Iceman. Voting in a Leadership contest of an opposition party to screw them up is unethical. Let them put their best foot forward and let it be firmly lodged in their collective mouths. Fair and square. We don't need dirty tricks to beat them. They beat themselves.

I also strongly disagree that a minority Government is probable at all. That is not how I see the next few years unfolding. Harper has increased his vote in each election and I will see that trend continue.

  8. I'm wondering if all those Alberta liberals who bought PC memberships to elect Redford will be allowed to vote for the next federal Liberal leader?

  9. I would much rather see the Liberals as the Official Opposition, and potential government, over the NDP, so I don't know why someone would purposely want to screw over the Liberals. Party's can destroy themselves and if that happens to the Conservatives the last thing I would want is for the NDP to form government. For the good of the country we need the Liberals as the only alternative to the Conservatives. It's a shame so many Conservatives want to destroy the Liberals just because they think they will be able to form government forever if they are out of the picture.

    1. Liberals are fools, who needs them?

They voted for the legalization of dope,
and the criminalization of farmers for selling their own grain.

    2. 50% of people in the US want marijuana legalized as well, and it's a policy promoted by Libertarian Presidential candidate Gary Johnson. It definitely needs to be studied. Their stance on the CWB is dumb.

  10. Jordan, the most important thing is that Bob Rae never becomes Prime Minister of Canada.

    1. Exactly, so why would people want to sign up to purposely vote for him just because they think it will destroy the Liberal Party?

    2. I'm encouraging people to vote for the next Liberal leader, but I'm not encouraging them to vote for Bob Rae.

Besides, I thought he wasn't running?

  11. Are the Gliberals or the Dippers the bigger electoral threat to good (Conservative) government?

    The answer is no.

  12. The biggest threat is the fair weather federalists, and closet separatists.

  13. I don't think there IS a "biggest threat" to the Conservatives, just the possible accumulation of a lot of small ones.

For instance, the Cons have ended the LGR,but delayed it and allowed the RCMP to steal thousands of legally-owned and expensive firearms. That pisses off a good percentage of their constituency, and not a word from Toews against the RCMP action.

Then, they ended the CWB, but left all the Marketing Boards in place, the Boards that drive all our food prices sky high.

Next, they "get tough on crime", but include minor and unimportant "crimes" such as growing five MJ plants in the legislation.

Conservatives are keeping a close eye on the upcoming Native Summit,to see if some substantial changes occur, such as scrapping the Indian Act,or if it will be more BS and bluster, with no tangible results.

I think the greatest impediment to the Conservatives is the deeply-social branch of the Party, that wants a return to Victorian times, and one day, if they influence the PM too much with their agenda, will piss off enough of the voters to try the "Other Guys".

And I hope, when that day comes, the "Other Guys" area moderate Liberal Party, not the ND-communist-in disguise Party.
