Why BC Tories Should Vote Conservative

All of a sudden heading into the Christmas break, the BC Liberals and the BC Conservatives are in a dead heat for second place to the NDP. Unlike others discouraging vote splitting in favour of unelected Premier Christy Clark, I say we need a viable alternative because the BC Liberal brand is mortally wounded. The NDP taking power is obviously a serious risk to the province, but voting for Christy greatly increases their chances of taking power. The BC Tories need to run a full slate of candidates when we finally get around to an election. Christy chickened her way out of a quick vote which she had promised, and now the rest of us are left to wait. The BC Liberals are damaged goods. We need John Cummins to do a good job and save us from the NDP. Salvation ain't coming from Christy...

  1. What is with female, unelected premiers, and their backing off promises of a quick election. Thinking of all the stupid things they have done as unelected premiers, what would they do if elected province wide. Especially if they were to get a majority.

  2. Adrian Dix has publicly promised to hold a public inquiry into the corrupt sale of BC Rail. That alone is enough for me to vote NDP in the next election. Besides, the BC Conservatives simply aren't a viable alternative, and likely never will be under John Cummins. Any leader who (in 2011) is still suggesting that being gay is a choice, is so clearly out of touch with reality as to be laughable.

  3. Re gay being a choice. So, did all those grandmothers who say they are gay live a lie for years, did all those married men/women who decided to live as a gay, live a lie for many years. Did they choose to be straight for years then choose to be gay.
And if it is not a choice, why are so many gay/lesbian org trying so hard to convince the rest of us it is not a choice.
Remember the commercial, you can't fool mother nature. I do accept that for some it is the easy way out, like all those draft dodgers who said they were gay to stay out of the military. OOPS, the Viet Nam war lasted lots longer than they planned and they were stuck with it.

  4. The gay thing is nothing but distraction. This is a matter of the economic well being and good economic leadership of BC. The NDP will lead us down to economic ruin. It is not a guess but a certainty.
The Liberals have morphed into the NDP lite in all but a few situations. They are dishonest and are flailing around trying to find any positive traction.
I don not wish to see the NDP win but I will not vote for a party that runs simply to be in power. Sounds like the federal Liberals to me.
Decision is made in my mind to vote for the Conservatives.

  6. There's three things that can torpedo a political campaign in an instant : talking openly about healthcare reform, abortion and gay rights/homosexuality. All three of those topics have no place in any election campaign. Personally I think the government should stay out of the bedrooms of people and focus on what's important. There's a lot of things that are wrong in this province and none of them will be fixed by Adrian Dix.

  8. wrong anon they have a big place because there issues and verry serious issues you know Canada is the only place in north amaerica where they don't have abortion laws. although I beleive in womens rite to choose. but they still got to be discussed and debated. same as gay marriage the problem is though that the gays and lesbians think were attacking them. and that we have aphobias and use that card all the time. but these issues have to be discust. and Debated. there important and it's freedom of speech.

  10. I have made my decision to allow this province to go to ruin in the next election by not strategically voting to keep the NDP out. I cannot fathom allowing the BC Liberal Party to be rewarded with another government simply because the only alternative is the NDP. I WILL be voting Conservative if there is a member in my riding.

Roy: I will look into BC Refederation again as well.

  11. I will vote for the BC Conservatives and Mr. Cummins. I could never, ever vote for the continued corruption of the BC "Liberals". If comrade Dix wins, without a doubt that would be a disaster, but rewarding Christy the Klown and the BC "Liberals" IMO would be even worse. Conservatives in BC have to vote Conservative and ignore the scare tactics.

  12. Anonymous @ 7:49is correct, the three taboos of electoral politics are abortion, health care , and gay rights/ marriage. No sensible politician should bother to discuss those can't-win subjects,as Stephen Harper refused to do in the last election. Those are subjects for fringe candidates, not anyone aspiring to the Premier's Office.

Dix might hold an inquiry into BC.Rail, but I seriously doubt that. Once elected he'll decide it's not in the public interest. Dix IS an accomplished liar, BUT I wouldn't vote for the communist SOB if he promised to hang Gordon Campbell and the whole corrupt Liberal bunch.

B.C.'s struggling economy depends on oil and gas exploration, and the building of pipelines to transport said commodities, and the NDP are fundamentally opposed to all those activities.

An NDP government will be looking for Green alternatives, piling on the carbon taxes, and driving business out of B.C.,just like they did last time we were stupid enough to give them a mandate.

If my local Conservatives can run a candidate slightly better and more electable than Muammar Ghaddafi,I shall vote for the sterling character, otherwise I'll have to vote Liberal and choke on it.

And you believe him, do you?

Besides, the BC Conservatives simply aren't a viable alternative, and likely never will be under John Cummins. Any leader who (in 2011) is still suggesting that being gay is a choice, is so clearly out of touch with reality as to be laughable.

First of all, the man is entitled to his opinion. If he's wrong, so what? He's far from the only person to believe that (refer back to the comments here so far, then extrapolate to the entire province of BC). I personally don't share his opinion, but that certainly doesn't change my opinion of the BC Conservative Party.

Secondly, you do realize that the leader of any political party doesn't get to rule like a dictator and implement any legislation he/she wants any time they like, right? They may be the boss, but if they don't keep the majority of their caucus members happy (or at least not too UNhappy), they can and will be removed as leader; don't forget that being an MP is a lucrative career for some, especially if you can get that second term in...

And lastly: you have a problem with the leader of one political party stating his opinion on the cause of homosexuality (NOT condemning it, let's keep in mind), but no problem with the leader of another party deliberately FALSIFYING a memo to exonerate someone accused of criminal actions? okaaaay....
