Liberal leader Mike Ignatieff has a problem. Bob Rae really wants his job, and the probability that Bob gets his job is increased as Iggy's personal fortunes falter. Iggy doesn't like showing up to work on Thursdays, Fridays, or really any day of the week. But when he skips work, Bobby gets to run the show in Question Period. They say when the Czar has gone away, the Bolsheviks come out to play. I just finished watching some scenes from the cult classic comedy What About Bob, and I saw some parallels. Then of course there is Bob Rae at committee meetings accusing our troops of war crimes...
Oh, and I can only imagine the meeting where Bob and Mike negotiated Bobby's capitulation of the Liberal leadership race. How might that meeting have looked?

ReplyDeleteYou have to understand, Bob is essential to the Liberal Party,while Michael Ignatieff is the figurehead, sort of like the "Boy Kings" in ancient times.
ReplyDeletePaul Desmarais and Power Corporation run the LPC, and Bob's brother conveys orders from Paul to Bob,who then runs to Iggy and translates the Top Guy's words into "intellectual-speak" so Michael can understand them.
Think of the old TV show,"The Untouchables",and the Capone mob. Paul Desmarais is "Johnny Torrio",Al Capone's mentor,and mobster emeritus,Bob Rae is Frank Nitti, the enforcer,the guy who gets things done and talks to the street level boys.
And Al,where's AL? Al,played for so many years by the great thespian,Jean Chretien, is retired, and we never see him onscreen,while this effete poseur Ignatieff hogs a goodly portion of the limelight,and doesn't have a clue as to how the LPC really runs.
He's kind of like a character from the last couple of years of that TV show,where the Italian Anti-Defamation League forced the producers to change many of the gangsters names to non-Italian ones,so as to salve the hurt feelings of the Italian community.
Michael Ignatieff has NO idea who he's in bed with,they're just some nice guys who promised him a job that would look good on his resume when he applied to be President of an Ivy League university.
That Bob/Frank hangs around with Commies,played by the great East Indian actor Mahatma Dosanjh,is a source of never ending amusement to the Desmarais/Torrio crowd,and I'm sure they chortle with glee when Bob promises all those nice socialist things when and IF the LPC ever gets this Country back into their clutches.
