Cabinet Vacancy

With all the hoopla about Helena today, nobody seemed to be discussing who will now fill this cabinet vacancy. I know from some of the polling I've done, Maxime Bernier is a popular choice to be re-introduced to cabinet. We need a new Minister of Women; Maxime Bernier should be in cabinet, so why not make Maxime the Minister of Women? It just seems like this is a job that Maxamillion was born to do...

But all chauvinistic joking aside, who should get the newly open job? The first name on my list is Shelly Glover. Either you introduce a new female cabinet Minister to the job, or you shift an existing female cabinet Minister to the women portfolio and move a male into the vacant post. There are a number of talented women in the Conservative caucus, so it won't be difficult to find a qualified replacement. The problem with shifting a current female cabinet Minister into Helena's post is that it is one of the most junior ministries in Government; meaning that it would be a demotion.

Which female Tory MP is most deserving of a promotion to Minister for the Status of Women?

  1. Why does the Minister for the Status of Women have to be a Woman? Is that not inherently Sexist (in the extreme)?

  2. I like Shelly Glover too. But, as Paul M says, why does it have to be a woman? Maybe Maxime would be a good choice, or better yet get rid of the SOWs altogether.

  3. The vacant seat will be filled by another incompetent, self-serving jerk who doesn't have the qualifications necessary to run a bingo hall. He or she will fit right in with the rest of the rest of the venal jerks that we laughingly refer to as our representatives.

  4. Rona Ambrose has already been named to the Status of Women portfolio.

  5. My poll question for Saturday afternoon will be "which Tory MP not currently sitting in Cabinet belongs in Cabinet." If you have suggestions, speak in the next 14 hours, or forever hold your peace...

Is it "hold your peace" or "hold your piece"? Who regrets keeping their mouth shut at Helena's wedding?

  6. If Rona has been moved to status of women, who is taking her Ministry?

  7. Rona Ambrose is keeping her Public Works portfolio AND taking the Status of Women, so it is in fact a promotion of sorts.

  8. Powell's comment is apposite. One of the shocking oversights of "Canada's new government" is its failure to defund Status of Women. The fact that this move would likely be opposed strongly by every noisemaker academic and government think-tank charity case is proof enough of its wisdow. And the fact that feminism needs a government cheque to keep it alive is proof enough that this ideology long ago ceased to have any value to our society.

  9. Cheryl Gallant from Renfrew-Nipissing- Pembroke, she was one of the two Canadian Alliance MP elected in Ontario in 2000, so by her experience and rural Ontario seat, would make her a good candidate.

  10. Why is there a Minister for the Status of Women anyways. WHY WHY WHY.

  11. At the first sign that the media or opposition try to "get something" on Rona, I hope the PM defunds this position.

  12. It's "peace" Ice, the other is a Hollywood expression for "hold your pistol".Yes,at the wedding somebody should have shouted out,"Helena, are you out of your F***ing mind! You can do better"!

Maybe Helena has a "colored" fetish, or is attracted to formerly powerful men, who have just had their ass kicked. There, I think I managed to commit racism and sexism all in one sentence. Why the hell an attractive, upwardly mobile female politician would hook up with a loser is beyond me.

Why not start reducing government by reducing this Ministry to a sideshow of another, essential Ministry, like Finance, or Fisheries and Oceans? The object being to gradually phase out an unnecessary and costly exercise in pandering to feminists.

  13. For the record, recommending Maxime Bernier become the Minister of Women was a joke, even if it was in bad taste. Sometimes when stories are being sensationalized elsewhere, it is fun to have a little satire.

Thanks for the traffic Cynic. I owe you one.
