Charest Behaving Badly

I was delighted to read that the former Charest Justice Minister Marc Bellemare claims that the Quebec construction industry was funneling money illegally into Charest's coffers. Many leftards enjoy musing that Charest is a possible successor to Stephen Harper, despite a lot of conservatives being opposed Jean's agenda. Whatever his past in politics, Charest is now a Liberal, and has a zero probability of winning a Tory leadership race. I was disappointed about the fall of Mario Dumont, who was not ready for prime time in the legislature. I remain ardently opposed to Charest's legislative agenda; specifically the parts where driving a car will cause an ice age.

Fortunately for Charest, like McGuinty, there won't be an election anytime soon. Unlike our current minority federal Government, provincial blunders have no probability of being put to voters in the near term. I am sick and tired of minority Parliament in Canada. Our democracy was designed for majorities. Why do you think the British are freaking out about the possibility of minority Parliament? Because in the British system, it is called "hung Parliament", that's why! Mario Dumont should run for the federal Tories next election in either Chicoutimi, Abitibi, Montmorency, Manicouagan, Richmond--Arthabaska, or Mount Royal.

  1. Seems Quebec has their very own Teaparty!
50,000 took to the streets to protest....tax increases!

Shouldn't Charest follow PMSHs lead, and at the very least, call in the RCMP to investigate these serious allegations?

  2. Those morons who put Charest on the short list of possible successors to Harper, forget one simple thing--it is CPC MEMBERS who will vote, not the general population. We follow politics closely, and obviously care about the future of our Party.

We won't soon forget how "Captain Canada" joined in with the seperatists in piling onto Harper during the last campaign, over the ridiculously trivial "cuts" to arts funding. And then later, the coward remaind neutral during the whole coaltion kerfuffle.

I'd sooner vote for Gainer the Gopher, than that weasel Charest. It looks good on him, to be on the receiving end of some hardball politics. Especially from one of his own ex-Ministers, which gives the charges a lot more credibility.

  3. Charest was never a Conservative, even if he did join with Mulroney to gain power. He's a Quebecer first and foremost, like most of the gang Mulroney had to make an accommodation with to win the Country.

This construction thing is not in the least surprising. I worked with a Quebec tradesman for several years and his tales of graft and corruption were indicative of it being standard operating procedure in Quebec, especially in government funded projects.

  4. BREAKING NEWS, Ethics commissioner will not investigate Helena. QP should be interesting today. 2 strikes against Jennings, will she try for 3 and perhaps have someone suggest she be investigated by said commissioner for her antics.

  5. And who has manufactured the bogus claim that the buffoon named Charest is a contender for leader of the Conservative’s?

Why that would be the same government, media and corporate scum bags who had that carpet bagger Iffy installed as leader of the Liberals. That’s who!

    I don’t think so!

  6. Don't forget as well Charest took $700 million of $2.3 billion in equalization money in October 2007 that the federal government thought he would use for social spending and turned around to announce income tax cuts in order to bribe voters. He stabbed Harper right in the back. The other provinces, especially in the West, were not happy.

Too bad the decreased popularity of Charest means we get the Parti Quebecois back in power in a few years with that Soviet commissar Pauline Marois as leader.

  7. Got a theory on this whole revelation that might be more than just an ex-cabmin getting some payback.
There has been some talk of late among the Quebec political pointy heads that there is a void on the right in the Quebec political spectrum...well duh.
Seems the usual suspects are musing that the time is right for a new party to emerge.
As I expect if this has any valididty to it, there will be some jockeying to either keep this from happening (one party reinventing itself) or a new party forming with some notible well known taking a leadership role (some opportunist re-inventing themselves).
    This story isn't half over.
