Heritage Minister James Moore recently announced that the CBC would receive a modest 12.5 million dollar budget cut, which in combination with declining revenues means that the CBC will be forced to cut at least one television program in order to save money (at least so the CBC tells us). If the board of directors is looking for ideas on how to save some money, I do have ideas. You can't go wrong with layoffs and cancelling bad programming. For example the Soloman Show is an extraordinary waste of money. I have some suggestions for the Board, and my list starts with the Soloman Show. I know that the Republic of Doyle blows and This Hour Has 22 Minutes has not been funny for some time. Dragon's Den, Hockey Night in Canada, the Mercer Report earn their keep, but there are a long list of shows that Canada can do without.
I have my next two poll questions readily in mind; but will take some suggestions first. 1) What is the best idea for the CBC to save money, and 2) What CBC television show is the biggest waste of money?
I would also love to see O'Malley and Milewski's expense accounts scaled back.
Simple. Shut down Radio 2 and transfer their budget to CBC-TV's.
ReplyDeleteSlowly the lifeline is being severed.
ReplyDeleteIf Milewski stopped hosting business luncheons at the gentlemen's club, I'm sure that they could save a lot of money.
ReplyDeleteCancelling the open bar at the Christmas party could also save them millions of dollars.
ReplyDelete12.5 million is a very small cut, it should have been 10% of the entire budget.
ReplyDeleteIs there a website any of you folks know about which shows what percentage of the TV viewing audience tunes in to the CBC programs. I've watched a few, like "Little Mosque",and the "Mercer Report" and can't stand them.HNIC is the only CBC program I ever watch, apart from the occasional Peter Mansbridge interview on CBC Newsworld.

A funding cut isnt enough - its time the CBC got the axe
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Kady O'Malley would work for free. She cares that much.
ReplyDeleteCut all their wages by 40%. If they don't like it, with their talent, they should be able to easily get a job somewhere else, right?
ReplyDeleteStop subsidizing the Liberal Party of Toronto!
ReplyDeleteSyndicate Glenn Beck LOL. Seriously though, give Ezra Levant a show to antagonize the HRC and make all kinds of noise and controversy. If there is no content for me there I won't go. There are thousands of other ways to spend my time. Almost anything is better than watching some entitled leftards spin their fun house world view with my eternal bailout.
ReplyDeleteI wish they would move the decimal to the other side of the 5. That would perhaps make some of those talking liberals (I mean anchors) think a bit.
ReplyDeletewhere will the liberals ndp bloc run too from canadians-you know us; who is going to go all the way and lobby for the liberals in the media? tom clark, taber, fife, Oliver CTV are all booked as it is.
ReplyDeleteWho is going to support the 'MELTDOWN' and hissy fits within the liberals.
Apparently the liberals national 'dream team' media reporters are going through a 'MELTDOWN'.
Fortunately we have become the 'POWER HOUSE' when it comes to delivering news.
CBC is like CNN and according to the top rated show of O'REILLY of FOX said numerous of times on television " who watches CNN-nobody watches CNN anyway.
FOX in Canada with strong personality like Beck, O'REILLY, EZRA LEVANT are needed here.
"CBC, your time is up"
Iceman, it really would be nice to know CBC ratings.
Axe the CBC altogether as it is a taxpayer funded liberal entity where they get to preach an agenda at our expense.
ReplyDeleteNot one of them worth their salt and all are hypocritical.
If they had a real job that would be a switch, but they are a bunch of "SLUGS." They don't know the meaning of blood suckers.
Amen.
What kind of ratings does Soloman get? Surely, they could not be all that great. Little House is just the worst fake multi-cult show - watched it for 5 minutes and that was enough.
ReplyDeleteBattle of the Blades, Heartland and The Border are keepers.
A few weeks ago I sent an e-mail to the Soloman Show asking what their ratings were, and they did not get back to me. I think hiring Kory Teneycke for the Power Panel shows that they were desperate to add some right wing viewers.
ReplyDeleteJudging by the number of people who respond to their poll questions, I would estimate the site traffic for the CBC Politics Page (which is heavy on O'Malley dialogue) may do 1500-3000 hits per day. I can't really speculate on the TV ratings except to say that they pimp the website and poll questions frequently on the show.
I have voted to axe that vomit-inducing "little mosque..." tried watching it a couple of times and it turned my stomach.
ReplyDeleteWhy the small cut of just 12.5 M. That is not even a ripple in the 1 Billion they get.
Oh well ... at least it's a start but the cuts must continue or better still cut the funding altogether. If they cannot stay afloat, it's because they are a dead weight and deserve to drown.
