Jim Flaherty Was Wrong

I am outraged at Jim Flaherty. The deficit is not what he told us it would be. Jim was wrong, and this culture of deceit must end. As it turns out, our deficit will come in far smaller than expected, to the tune of $13 billion dollars. I fully expect the opposition to rally their collective anger around this smaller than expected deficit that the Finance Minister told us it would be larger. I expect projections to be exactly right, and anything else is simply unacceptable. I can see the lead zinger in Question Period now, "will the Prime Minister do what's right and fire this Minister for Canada doing a better job than he thought we would!"

As much as the Oracle of Page wants to make deficit forecasts for the next 100 years, making GDP forecasts in a tumultuous global economic environment is going to produce a very high rate of error. If we can't even accurately predict the deficit for the current fiscal year, how are we supposed to forecast it 10 years out? Does anyone truly know what a barrel of crude will cost in 2020? Not even the wise foreseeing of Kevin Page can decipher that from his crystal ball.

  1. Yes, I wonder if Scott Clark and Kevin Page are still counselling Mr. Ignatieff to raise the GST, when he's annointed Prime Minister.

  2. Perhaps the government can contact some advertising agencies in Quebec to help increase the original forescasted deficit?

Maybe we can put a few gold plated fountains in the riding of our PM for tourism?

Anyone in the CPC own a fleet of ship that could use some beneficial changes to our laws?

What if we pay for a study to a giant fan aka bird chopper on every farm to help the Liberals with their Rural strategy?

  3. The sad truth is that you’re right about this.

The Gliberals will be upset that this money wasn’t “paper bagged” and passed under the table to their corporate and government owners. Especially those conniving, duplicitous media companies. These butt scratching, finger sniffing chimps have pretty much given up on trying to make a buck the honest way. Rigged markets just don’t pay the bills like it used to. They want their corporate welfare and they want it now.
And if they don’t get their way, “Local Television” is gonna have an “accidente”!

The Non Democratic Party is exceptionally disturbed that this money wasn’t used to hire more far left kooks as government non workers. The NDP’s position is that you can never have a big enough mob of unruly unionista’s screaming Viva Castro! Viva Chavez!! VIVA ABJECT POVERTY FOR ALL!!!

Then we have the Bloc Banditos. They are furious because they could of used that 13 Billion (You really didn’t think that they’d consider sharing did you! Give your head a shake if you did!) on funding of the arts. Especially the kind of Arts that can brain wash more Quebecers into believing that it’s us “Mad Dog Anglo’s” who are ripping THEM off, rather than the other way around.

It’s crazy world out there folks!

  4. I believe the Flaherty is doing a good job. However, I can't help but recall that the former government was constantly berated by the Conservative party for their overblown deficit projections. I'm sure that the Liberals, NDP and Bloc will have no problem bringing this up in the HoC.
