Ezra Levant Vs Evan Soloman

Every afternoon at the same time Sun TV's Ezra Levant's television show goes up against that of the CBC's Evan Soloman. The Soloman Show is available on nearly twice as many television sets, but to be fair Sun News is only 4 months old and not mandated by the CRTC to be included in cable packages. So what is the ratings difference between the two competing politics shows? Well according to the latest ratings, there is very little difference in their audience size. Soloman is on 10.6 million TV sets and had 59,000 viewers while Levant is on 5.5 million TV sets and had 57,000 viewers. CTV News Channel finished in a distant 3rd place, though their keynote politics show Power Play is currently on a summer vacation.

Evan Soloman had a head start when he took over the afternoon slot, inheriting Don Newman's audience. I'm not sure what size of audience Newman had prior to his departure, but it had to be better than Soloman's haul. It would be very interesting to see the historical ratings for the Soloman Show since its inception in 2009, data that the CBC is mandated to track but doesn't share publicly, among other things.

  5. With no more Beck at 3.00 p.m. a lot of us found Ezra via the internet.
Are those cbc viewers all for one airing of the show or a combination of both the original and repeat an hour later.
OT, but the writers at NNW are going crazy with the word Royal being returned to our military.
And also with the retiring of duceppe before he gets started at cbc.

  7. I watched Don Newman's show religiously because I found him to be smart, on the ball and insightful. He asked fair questions, had an inquisitive mind and didn't shy away from presenting the awkwardness of his guests stances.

Solomon has greatly disappointed me. I used to watch him on the Sunday show and found him to be a good journalist, but as a political host he is a wet blanket. When I first started watching his new show I constantly found myself thinking "What about this" or "Ask him/her that." He, however, doesn't ever like to upset the apple cart for fear of someone not returning to the show.

The last straw for me was all the focus on the royals (I'm a republican). I became ill with the focus on how kindly William looked or the references to Kates' pretty dresses or how much she resembled Diana with her style. That, for me, was the last straw. I officially stopped watching Power and Politics for that reason and haven't turned on CBCNN since.

  8. Sun News talks about things no one else in Canadian TV is talking about. It's quite refreshing.

  9. I like to watch Sun News live on the internet. Easily the simplest to watch streaming. Do the other guys have a watch live feature?

Quickly finding an untapped market, glad to see becoming a ratings success.

  10. I think SunTV is slowly getting better every time I watch it, and getting rid of the young, over-animated guy (can't remember his name already) was important. I get the impression that some of the issues they beat on have never seen the light of day before (SUN ?), and that they are actually going to have some moderating influence over the other dinosaur stations far sooner than one would have expected.

  11. What's happened to David Akin and Krista Erickson. I don't see them anymore. Not that I really care, just curious to know. I echo J Cawram comment, Sun News has found a niche that needed to be filled and the ratings keep getting better.
