Everybody sound their alarms of outrage, the Prime Minister does not fly commercial air! The sky is falling! To make matters worse, he actually flew around the country to promote our economic recovery and build confidence in Canadian industry. Oh the humanity! This kind of reminds me of the time that Stephen Harper tried to encourage investment in Canadian markets in a Manbridge interview, and Peter responded with horror. Investors were dumping stocks in a panic, and the Prime Minister did what a Prime Minister should do attempt to stop the bleeding. Time also proved out that the resiliency of the Canadian economy was stronger than most "experts" predicted.
I don't have a problem with the Prime Minister visiting communities in the country to promote the Canadian economy. If the outrage is that he doesn't fly commercial, well I'm sure a challenger jet is a hell of a lot cheaper than Air Force One. We can compare dollars and cents, but I trust the Prime Minister to be fiscally responsible. I don't think that fiscal responsibility includes our PM flying in coach.
The PM can't fly commercial--security--and the people in the PPG are fully aware of this.
ReplyDeleteThe media are dropping to a new low with this one. If this is all they have on our PM, it's skinnier than most of them are, on their best day.
ReplyDeleteHow much do journalists pay to fly to interview private eyes holidaying in a tropical paradise? How much did econuts pay to fly to Copenhagen?
I remember the outrage at the PM suggesting it was a good time to invest, Mandsbridge soiled his panties. I guess he never heard of...
ReplyDeleteWhen they are yellin'
you should be sellin'
But when they are cryin' you should be buyin'
I bought RBC stock it has tripled since then
thanks for the advice PM Harper!
If I had listened to Iffy, I would have......crickets
As far as the tab for PM Harpers looking after our buisness we are in better shape than almost all other Countrys on the planet, money well spent IMO
Cheers Bubba
Everyone supports the PM using the jet for government business. What people don't like is the use of taxpayer money for Harper to promote himself and his party. Partisan abuse of taxpayer dollars is wasteful. Harper indulges in too much self-promotion at taxpayer expense.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, "What people don't like is the use of taxpayer money for Harper to promote himself and his party."
ReplyDeleteHe was promoting the Economic Action Plan, not himself. The stimulus is a government policy, and right now the Conservatives are the government. Unfortunately what you see as self promotion is in fact selling our economic recovery. That's what happens when you get elected to power.
It was the Lib/NDP/ BLOC coalition, not Harper that demanded this budget, (which includes the Economic Action Plan). Canadians needed to know what was going on, and the country needed reassurance to help stabilize the economy. It worked. I think the real issue is that the Opposition hates the fact that Harper gets the credit -- as well he should. The Opposition did nothing to cooperate. In Iggy's words, 'I'm just the Leader of the Opposition -- it's up to the P.M. to set policy." What a narrow view of his role. An effective Opposition not only "criticizes" the gov't on policy, BUT OFFERS CONSTRUCTIVE ALTERNATIVES. They shouldn't put their own political aspirations ahead of the best interests of Canadians--- that is why the Liberals are polling at 25%.
ReplyDeleteHarper abused the expensive government jet with his ultimate boys night out:

Anony...please tell me just HOW he was promoting himself.
ReplyDeleteFirst you guys complain because he doesn't visit communities and then you complain because he does.
He can't win with you guys can he?
Sure looks like a lot of jealousy to me.The Liberals for the past 4 years have nothing but bad news to announce to the Canadian people.Like green tax, carbon tax, wind mills, tax increases on everything provincially ,HST Ontario,BC.No policies,no good news, not one Government policy got a thumbs up from these idiots in 4 years. Now they want to take credit for the Conservatives policies and do not want PM Harper going around telling Canadians about these policies.Something by the way that the MSM and CBC should have been printing.Well here is a BIG thumbs up for PM Harper and his Conservative Government..
ReplyDeleteAs usual the MSM looks ridiculous criticizing the prime minister visiting Canadians. Meanwhile iffy mixing duties as opposition leader with book signings across Canada.
ReplyDeleteJust curious, what did it cost us for JC/libs to cancel the helicopter deal. What did it cost us to rent planes ect to get our troops to Afghan.
ReplyDeleteAnd who bought those jets in the first place.
And the PM rents a different plane to get around during a campaign.
And who paid for those mps and premiers to go diss our stand at Copenhagen. Does lizzie pay her own way, but she did stay at some estate in France.
And who paid for Iffy to go to Calgary to try to sell his book a few days ago. Why should he be allowed to talk about his books, while on govt business.
