Mulroney--Schreiber; Rest In Peace

I can't be the only Canadian who thought that the Oliphaunt Inquiry was a precious waste of time and taxpayers dollars. Karlheinz Schreiber was able to prorogue his German prison sentence for tax evasion as long as he could, but finally justice received has finally prevailed. That was the whole point of the media frenzy surrounding the recycled allegations a year ago, where most of the key witnesses succumbed to natural causes since the original investigation. I was pleased today to see Karlheinz finally put in a cell, and I hope we can finally put this sorted affair behind us and allow Mr. Mulroney to serve out the rest of his life with dignity.

Well done German justice system. Try saying that 5 times fast...

  1. Both Shreiber and Lyin Brian Mulroney should be in jail. Mulroney was just better at bull$#iting the legal system of his country than Shreiber. They are both dirty.

  2. I predict more noise from Karl now that he has been sentenced to basically a 'life sentence'. What does he have to lose and there must be a Canadian Liberal journalist out there that would hang on his every word.....and believe his every utterance?

I mean after all, isn't their main goal in life, destroying the reputation of a conservative MP?

We can only hope that the German legal system doesn't allow him to benefit from his crimes or talk to opportunist, witch hunting journalists.

  3. Poor Harvey, of cbc, all that time and effort for nothing. What did the inquiry cost, from start to finish. All that money and time to try and jail Brian. Same goes for the wasted dollars re the detainee inquiry. Is it true that mps get paid extra for all those meetings and is that why the coalition of the opposition keep it up, to fatten their wallets.

  4. I'd like to see a dollar amount for all the Commissions and inquiries created for the Liberal's phony scandal accusations.
What are we at now, four or five?

  5. It was inevitable this would be the outcome.
Only the lefties were in total delusional fog, which wasted taxpayers' money and their combined foolishness reigned supreme in the HOC.
In the long run they will pay for their cheap stance on this "hogwash."
    Some things never change.
Note the latest polls out. I know, I know but it certainly indicates a positive note for the Cons.

  6. Harvey Cashore yesterday on Adler still has high hopes I think he can find the "smoking gun" He says Karl will sing now, spill the beans about Airbus,he's got nothing to lose according to Harvey. Harvey was still lamenting the Inquiry didn't delve into Airbus yada, yada, yada. So don't be surprised if Harvey goes over to Germany on our dime to have a little visit with Karl in jail to beat a dead horse. At least that's the impression I got anyway.

  7. The German justice system is much more efficient than ours. How long did it take...1 year. We had been trying to extradite Schreiber for 20 years and after spending millions of dollars in an attempt to smear a previous PM did we finally get rid of this petty little man. He is where he belongs..in Germany and in jail.

  8. I agree with frmgrl: I think Harvey will not give up. It will be a fail, though, as Germany does not want any more auld witch hunts on Helmut Kohl, as they can't prosecute. The RCMP did not find anything (and I do believe that they looked) and no one will want to try to get 25 year-old bank records from Liechtenstein. There is ZERO chance that any government will seek extradition of Schreiber to Canada. Schreiber probably did make big donations in the days when this was "allowed".
