We Didn't Tank Iggy's Popularity. They Did.

See, anyone can talk like Ignatieff. Leadership polling numbers indicate that Ignatieff is by far the least popular political leader in the country. A whopping 26% of Canadians have a positive opinion of Iggy Pop. His act isn't earning him the trust of the country, where most people see him as a tourist who only moved back to Canada in an attempt to rise to power. Ian Davey went down to Harvard and convinced Mike that he could be elected Czar of all of Canada, and Iggy followed Ian all the way back to Etobicoke Lakeshore. Here we are a few years into the experiment, Iggy managed to attain leadership without a vote from the party membership, and the Liberal Party has hit a floor.

No matter how desperately or furiously they spin the tires; they just can't gain any traction. That begs the question, how far away is the Bob Rae era? Has anyone read the Liberal Party's constitution? I'd like to know how many different ways Bob Rae could possibly usurp Iggy. I am assuming there has to be a mechanism to at least trigger a leadership review, if not an actual convention. I know it irks a lot of Liberals that they never got to vote on Iggy as leader. Oh wait, my bad, they did get to vote. He lost to Stephane Dion. I wonder what was going through Iggy's mind at that leadership convention when he watched Bob Rae and Ralph Goodale lead a long march of high profile party members past Iggyland to Camp Dion? I'd pay a penny for those thoughts...

  1. It took Dion two years to blow up, Ignatieff has already beaten him. I don't think Dion lost four contests in by elections. The actual support for the LPOC went down in every single riding except Bill Caseys because they never ran a liberal last time.

Janine Krieber (waited one year to make her OMEN about the Dustbin of History for this party)

It was dismissed by the Liberal as was Dennis Codderre, and every other canary or internal revolt to the Baystreet appointee.

Ignatieff is most likely pleading behind the scense for his MPs to not repeat the John Turner letter.

If he was well-advised he should ask for a senate appointment, alternative, secure form of employment in Canada.

Alberta Ardvark might get mad, but I keep suggesting he is a double agent for the Republicans. Think of the missteps, damage to the brand to the Liberals under his leadership.

Can anyone be that inept or have such poor advisors?

  2. I'm thinking that 26% is pretty high for Iggy Pop.

  3. CS, don't you understand? The Liberal Party is the natural governing party of Canada! They'll return to power all on their own, regardless of their leadership or their ideas. It's only natural!

  4. I did not get that memo, thank you for the reminder.

I suggest Liberals are retreating back to Quebec. Ontario is shifting Blue, they have over 50 seats and will gain another 10 at Lib-NDP expense.

At least 7 seats with 5% for CPC gain.

Will Dalton McGuinty help his David at the federal level after Ignatieff is let go?

  5. I still think that those that recruited MI, thought they could trigger a snap election and he would get elected before we knew anything about him. He would have been PM in name with the backroom boys pulling his strings. As it would have been a minority, or the coalition, perhaps Layton would have been deputy PM and running the show with Giles not far behind.

  6. Iffy has lived up to the 'just visiting' ads.
And Iffy has also lived up to the 'not a leader' ads too.

The dude has 4 years experience as an MP,
that's it. Plus he was out of the counrty for 34 years.
    What did the Liberals expect?
They put him up against PM Harper.

Are they so blinded by their hatred that they actually believed Iffy was the guy to beat Harper?

  7. Speaking of Kreiber!

I got a hunch that her and her hubby are going to go nuclear on Iffy at just the right time during the next election.

    Now, wouldn't that be fun!

  8. I believe its time the media started to admit the next liberal leadership is underway.
Perhaps they would care to report on the many riding visits Justin Trudeau and his side kick Gerrard Kennedy have been making to build up support for their leadership runs.
Come on Jane, come on Kady, inquiring minds want to know.

  9. David McGuinty? Ha!! I'm sure Liberals would love to swap one arrogant, condescending party leader with another.

  10. The worst these numbers get for the Iffy Gliberals, the higher the chance that the three Coup Colonels will pull out all the stops and attempt to seize power without an election.

It'll all be orchestrated with the Toronto media of course. Have you noticed them doing more and more of that sort of thing lately. They’re practicing for the big event!

The Corporate and Bureaucratic owners of the Liberal Party are dieing of thirst, and will do anything to get their hands on the spigot that’ll quench their desire.

  11. It is breathtaking watching the demise of Iggy. He can't be removed without a party vote and that's after an election loss. The only way would be for the caucus to refuse to support and follow him. That would cause all kinds of problems and of course he would have to resign.
Despite the constant attack by the media most Canadians are not buying their story lines and despite what they throw at Harper he continues to lead in the polls. However, Harper/Conservative government needs to do something dramatic to convince Canadians the party deserves a majority government.
